The race is on; after a thrilling and hard-fought victory by LSU’s Lady Tigers 73-63 over Auburn, Angel Reese seems to have developed some interest towards the current Lady Tiger of the team. LSU went 0-for-6 from 3-point range, and the Tigers went scoreless behind the arc for the first time this season.

The Auburn game was a thriller, with LSU securing a hard-fought victory. After trailing 38-24 at halftime, LSU dominated the third quarter, led by Flau’jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow. Despite a late Auburn push, LSU’s defense and Angel Reese’s critical points sealed the win.

Aneesah Morrow, one of the team’s key players, secured 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead LSU to the win. Morrow is the senior who leads the team in rebounding (14 per game) and double-doubles (15), keeping the team scores unbeaten (17-0, 2-0 SEC). This is Tiger’s second-best performance in college basketball.

This outstanding performance by Morrow creates a massive point for her being equated to Reese’s all-time WNBA performance in her rookie year. Reese’s pursuit is particularly notable because she has made an impact with a double-double streak, which is a remarkable accomplishment. Meanwhile, Aneesah Morrow is a standout player, leading the NCAA streak this season and adding an extra layer of competition.

Despite fierce competition from her teammate Flau’jae Johnson, the spotlight firmly falls on Reese as she chases this significant achievement.

Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson were instrumental in securing LSU’s National Championship victory in 2023. However, the duo now has limited interaction. Despite the Tigers maintaining their status as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball, the impact of her absence is strongly felt within the team.

Even senior player Marrow expressed, “A lot of people still ask us, ‘Where’s Angel?'” star senior Aneesah Morrow admitted to the Chicago Sun-Times in a recent interview. “What Angel’s done for the game cannot be replaced.”

LSU’s leadership dynamics have evolved. Flau’jae Johnson has taken charge as captain, inspiring teammates with her charisma and confidence. Coach Kim Mulkey emphasizes shared leadership, with seniors like Morrow stepping up to maintain the Tigers’ dominance and drive the team forward. Although Reese handed over the team’s leadership to Johnson before making it to the Chicago Sky, their relationship has grown distant as former teammates.
