The Colorado prodigy is the man of the moment in the world of college football. After an exceptional Superman interception against the UCF Knights, Travis Hunter has secured excellent odds for the Heisman Trophy. He gave this performance of a season after being on the radar of Richard Sherman, who raised doubts about Hunter’s future as a two-way player in the NFL next year. At the same time, Travis managed to shut down the qualms of the former NFL cornerback and even wore a “bland” t-shirt to practice to mock the heated exchange. Though the fans and the haters alike believed that Travis Hunter’s performance on 29th September was a befitting response to all the criticism, the two NFL legends, Shannon Sharpe and Chad ‘Ochincho’ Johnson, continue to echo Richard Sherman’s thoughts.
On the 29th September episode of the ‘Nightcap’ show, Unc & Ocho sat down to react to Colorado’s demolishing win against the UCF Knights and talked about the electric performance of the number 12 player. They first emphasized the comments Sherman made prior to the game and reluctantly agreed with the former Seahawks’ cornerback. This is not to say that the duo wasn’t starstruck with what Travis Hunter demonstrated at the Bright House Networks Stadium.
Shannon Sharpe chimed in with his take and said, “I don’t believe anybody thinks he’s gonna play every snap on offense, every snap on defense. Nobody believes that. Do we believe that he can be a defensive back and have a package of plays on offense? Yes, because we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen Prime do it, Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, JJ Watt had a couple of packages as a defensive lineman but to play every snap? Don’t think so.”

Thus, Sharpe doesn’t seem to have a lot of faith in Hunter pulling off the two-way role as Hunter claims to, despite being an ardent fan of the youngster as well as the Colorado Buffaloes. Alongside him, Johnson also had similar remarks to make but did so by giving due credit to Hunter for his talents as well.

Chad Johnson claims Travis Hunter’s skills need a bit more brushing up
The entire college football community has been more than pleased to witness this new rise of the Colorado Buffaloes. The players and the plays are drastically different from their poor 2023 season, and at the helm of their success are the explosive athletes Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. The latter tends to play both the WR position and the cornerback, which he plans to continue to do so in the NFL next year as well, which isn’t sitting right with the critics.
After Sharpe’s comments about how it isn’t likely he’ll be able to play both positions with equal proficiency, Johnson went ahead and added his agreement with Sherman’s opinion.

Johnson was heard saying, “When I think about Travis Hunter and how special he is even at even at the receiver’s position, I understand what Sherman’s talking about in a sense but I’m also understanding how much work and how much time he has to work on this craft from a receiver standpoint. He’s so athletically gifted, once they sharpen up all the tools, man, it’s a wrap.”
It looks like only time will be the true test of Hunter’s capabilities as he constantly tries to prove to everyone that he’s the unique talent he’s been claiming to be. With the onset of the next few weeks, the haze around these doubts around Travis Hunter will clear up soon.
