Isobel Borlase, born in South Australia, is ready to live her dream in the WNBA Draft. According to ESPN, the probability of her being a lottery pick is high. The top 5 picks are expected to be Caitlin ClarkCameron BrinkKamilla CardosoRickea Jackson, and Aaliyah Edwards. For a 19-year-old without NCAA experience to be behind them in draft order is a remarkable achievement. In 2024, the WNBA draft is not the only thing where her focus is. She is also ready to represent Australia at the Paris Olympics.

Her family is her biggest strength and has guided her in the best possible way. Borlase has grown up in a family of sports players. From her parents to her siblings, everybody has made a mark in their sporting careers. Nevertheless, Isobel is breaking boundaries. When it comes to the WNBA Draft, while she has not explicitly stated her desire to play in the US yet, she is projected to be the 7th pick by the Minnesota Lynx. This is of course, only a prediction and things might change on the day of the Draft as well.

Currently, Isobel Borlase is one of the top prospects to play for Australia in the Olympics. Last season, she won the WNBL’s Betty Watson Breakout Player and Sixth Woman of the Year for her outstanding rookie season with the Adelaide Lightning. The call to represent the country came soon after. She was selected for the FIBA U19 World Cup and finished as Australia’s leading scorer. She was also selected to her maiden Opals team at the Olympic Qualifiers.

During her first game, she did not feature at all. But in the next game when she came on, with her first touch, she hit a 3-pointer. In the 3rd and final game of the qualifiers, Isobel started for the first time and finished with 12 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Ensuring the Opals with a guaranteed place in the Paris Olympics and her team with a 3-0 record.

She is used to handling pressure and delivering in her own way. During her WNBL debut, she finished with 25 points. After the last season, she was honored with Rachael Sporn’s ‘unretired’ #14 to wear with the Lightning. Unretiring the jersey for a 19-year-old tells you the faith of everybody in her. But is she even ready to jump to cross the waters to play in the WNBA?

Isobel Borlase might end up staying in Australia this year

While she is aware that life in the WNBA is difficult, she is ready for the challenge. “I’m not sure if I’m fully ready to make the move to America this year. I think representing the Opals is top for me, so putting myself in the best position possible to make that team will maybe not be in America. But it’s exciting. I think it is exciting, I mean it’s the best basketball league in the world,” she explained in an interview with The Pick and Roll.

She continued, “And I think most girls, unless you’re an international player, all girls coming out of college are 22 or 23, they’ve done three of four years of a hectic lifestyle in college, so they’re a lot older than any Australian coming out of the WNBL would be. So, I think it’s just a maturity thing.”
