Is Aneesah Morrow the key to LSU's success, or is it a team effort all the way?

The LSU Tigers have played four games this season and won all of them. While Angel Reese graduated, the Lady Tigers don’t seem to be missing her. And credit for this goes to the entire team, especially to their guard Aneesah Morrow, who has supported Flau’jae Johnson’s efforts on the defensive end most of the time (averages- 12.3 rebounds per game). And after their recent game against the Murray State Racers, their head coach Kim Mulkey acknowledged her balling prowess.

On Friday after LSU beat the Racers, Mulkey lauded Morrow for compensating for a weak shooting game with her other skills, and surely that would have set the standard for the team.

“I thought Morrow was a warrior for us tonight. She didn’t shoot it particularly well, but she never gave up on the defensive end of the floor. When we changed and we went to a hedge with the post in the second half, she was up there doing things just playing hard and consequently while she didn’t shoot it great, she ends up with a double double. Because she found other ways to contribute and that’s what happens is… you get caught up in miss-shots or points that you don’t score. There’s a lot of ways to win a ball game, and I thought she was a warrior for us tonight,” Mulkey stated.

While Morrow did not have a particularly pleasing shooting display against Murray State on Friday night, she compensated it with her defensive efforts. The 21-year-old contributed 14 rebounds that helped her hit a double-double, while she could only shoot 4-11 field goals and attempted zilch threes.

Plus Mulkey also applauded her since the Lady Tigers, who stand undefeated, were trailing the Racers by 13 points for almost 18 and a half minutes before making up in the fourth quarter due to Morrow. Notably, 9 out of her 10 points came in the second half, and she also hit the layup that helped them edge past the Racers in the fourth quarter. Hence, she was the game changer, and similar sentiments were echoed by the WNBA legend Lisa Leslie a few days ago.

Lisa Leslie praises Aneesah Morrow

When the Lady Tigers trumped the Charleston Southern Buccaneers by 117-44 on Monday, Leslie was all praises for Morrow. The Chicago-born had collected a game-high 20 rebounds, hitting a double-double even on that day with 21 points. Notably, she supported Mikaylah Williams, who wrapped up the game with 25 points. Thus, Leslie couldn’t help but praise her.

Is Aneesah Morrow the key to LSU's success, or is it a team effort all the way?

Have an interesting take?

The other player that they have is Aneesah Morrow, who is going to be an amazing WNBA player. She had 24 points, 20 rebounds—like she’s a bucket. She can shoot the three. She plays forward, which is interesting because, at her height at 6’1, she’s sometimes at the four, but she’s a stretch four. She can play outside, great body,” Leslie stated about the senior who might be playing her last year with the Lady Tigers and is projected as the 7th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA mock draft.

Apart from Leslie, even the LSU alum Angel Reese had mentioned Morrow was her favorite player to watch this season for her interesting game. And with the rest of the season ahead, perhaps this will be a boost for Morrow to receive praise from her HC and a figure as big as Leslie. However, it remains to be seen how she continues to perform throughout the season and where she can be drafted in the W.
