Georgia represents a team for which you can bet a dime. Well, don’t be that quick to yell. We are not ignoring that Carson Beck part. Beck has been a huge pain in Kirby Smart’s neck throughout the season. There is no second thought that he couldn’t meet the expectation. His interception-heavy games against Alabama, Florida, and Texas led to a raving outrage on X, with fans vehemently demanding a quarterback change in the starting position. But staying true to Smart’s firm faith in him, the QB phenom made a short-lived comeback as the season progressed, but again, destiny hit harder. The Texas SEC game was a season-ending deal for the kid as he injured his elbow. Now, the question begs, is the Bulldogs still worth a national title hope without Beck? The answer is a resounding yes.

Georgia gets ample time to figure out the team’s issues and limitations before they suit up for the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. Thanks to a massive first-round bye. Fans set the bar high for Kirby and the squad, and quite rightfully so. Adam Breneman did nothing but add fuel to that fire with a promising claim on the major setback (at least, how a portion of the CFB world views it to be) of the SEC juggernaut.

”Look at what they’ve done without Carson Beck this season. Georgia has won this year when Beck played well. They also won when Beck played badly. Beck was not a determining factor in how Georgia played throughout this season. They won the SEC Championship game against Texas when Stockton played well and also when he played badly. I mean, he had some really good plays and also threw a terrible interception in that game, but Georgia still found a way to win. If Georgia plays defense the way they did against Texas in both games,” the former NFL vet put the Carson Beck doubt to rest, passing the torch to the tight-knit defense.

Gunner Stockton, the backup QB for Beck, seemed to earn some big feats. The red-shirt sophomore remained a cynosure during the Orange Bowl against Florida State, where he racked up 6-for-10 on passing for 96 yards and two touchdowns. It’s a good chance for the kid to shine brighter in the red jersey.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Kirby Smart's loyalty to Carson Beck a mistake, or does he see something we don't?

”I do think that he brought a new life to this offense and gave that was the most juice I’ve seen Georgia’s offense have in a while when he went out there and added a whole new dynamic to their offense with how he runs the football. He forces defenses to account for his Mobility, which is something defenses have never had to do with Carson Beck. He can extend plays with his legs, contribute to the run game, and then open up opportunities for their running backs and create mismatches in the passing game. I think Stockton can be a game-changer.”

Breneman accredited the alternative Dawg QB at the start. So, was Beck’s injury a blessing in disguise? Whether it’s a yes or no, at rock bottom, Kirby Smart needs to be proved wrong about his favorite boy.

Kirby Smart’s vision of Carson Beck should turn a hollow hype

Amidst the growing frustration against Carson Beck, Kirby Smart was the man who continued batting for him. When he was pressured about doing something in the starting spot, the coach ruled it out completely. Instead, he put Beck on a pedestal, praising his accurate decision-making ability and consistent effort on the O-line. Defending the widespread criticism, Smart pointed out how poised Beck looked during a productive second half against the Florida Gators. That’s not wrong though, but Smart’s other judgment needs to be wrong at any cost.

See, if Smart’s instinct was right, and if Georgia played its best quarterback all along, then the Bulldogs’s future seems to be in serious jeopardy because Carson Beck showed zero signs of returning to the gridiron for the Sugar Bowl match-up and beyond.

The silver lining for the Georgia fans: Smart isn’t a flawless visionary. Despite being a marquee coach with a heavy of records under their belt, Smart often misjudges his quarterbacks. He had his lessons trusting Jacob Eason back in 2017. The list will go long. But once again, we all want him, the coach phenom, to fail as a predictor of the team’s best interest.
