From being a standout prospect at Rockwell High School to going on a roller coaster of emotions in her collegiate journey. Shelomi Sanders has decided to live her life in her own way. After choosing Alabama A&M, she expressed that she possesses high energy and is unafraid to make bold decisions. Even her father, Deion Sanders, called her decision “stupid.” But the leading ladies of her life—her mom and her grandmother—stood strong with her. When she expressed her heart by posing in her new jersey through an Instagram post, “Momma Prime” sent her warm wishes.
Have you seen Shelomi Sanders’ recent Instagram post? She was flaunting her Alabama A&M jersey, and her grandmother could only wish her luck after seeing this. Momma Connie‘s comment reads, “Look good, go get it.” These are such wise words from a lady who raised a football legend. Her words reflect how she’s trying to encourage her young granddaughter by boosting her confidence. Besides that, if we observe the pictures Shelomi shared, she is sitting on the basketball goalpost in one picture highlighting “The Hill” and No. 22, imprinted on her jersey. Another picture is a dribbling shot of her looking straight into the camera like a boss lady.

But when we observe her journey to end up in Alabama, it wasn’t a cakewalk. She said in an interview that when she got out of high school, it was already assumed that she’d go to JSU, where Deion Sanders coached. After Coach Prime moved to Colorado, she followed and transferred to the Buffs to stay close to her family. And when she thought she wasn’t getting what she deserved, she transferred to Alabama A&M. While talking about her move, she refrained from saying something like, “Too bad.” She just said she wasn’t getting “good energy” and “good vibes.” She said she would have quit playing basketball if she had stayed there.
And you won’t believe what Sanders said about this. “It was stupid,” he said. Coach Prime said she should have confirmed a starting spot on a team and then entered the transfer portal. Meanwhile, her mom, Pilar, in an interview, clapped for Shelomi to follow her heart. As per Pilar, her daughter’s decision was nowhere near being called stupid, and she shut down Coach Prime’s comments. Besides all this stuff, let’s learn what she has done on the basketball court till now.
Shelomi Sanders’ basketball journey
Shelomi grew up watching her father play football, and now her brothers play football. It was cool that she had chosen a unique career for herself. During her Rockall-Heath High School, she played remarkable games. In her senior year, she averaged 16 points per game and earned All-District First-Team honors in Texas. Shelomi went to Jackson State under Deion Sanders but ended up seeing action in only two games. But wait, her journey takes a swift turn after she joins Colorado.

Her transition to the Buffs took a toll on her mental health. Many things affected her, including a limited game time. She played in five games yet struggled to fit in. After that, she entered the portal, joining Alabama A&M in April 2024. There, she’s getting recognized as a three-point threat. Apart from all that, Shelomi proudly acknowledges her being diabetic since age 13 and often raises awareness about it through her social media posts.
