Is Deion Sanders the next Nick Saban, or is this just a lucky streak for the Buffs?

This is what you call a true comeback story. Deion Sanders and the Buffs are on a wild run. With a 7-2 record, Coach Prime has turned the tables for Colorado football. And this wasn’t easy. Coming from a 4-8 season, Deion Sanders had to switch up the game, and god they did. The Huskers game was the turning point in the season. People had thought that Colorado was back to being bad, but nope. These guys switched up the run game and defense and went on a 3 win streak. Even against Kansas State, they would’ve won if their entire WR team hadn’t been wiped out. But have you ever thought about how Deion Sanders and Co. managed to go against all odds and secure Bowl game eligibility and now No.18 rank on the AP polls?

Yeah, the Nick Saban energy. Saban tapped into that “rat-poison” energy when he picked Georgia and Texas as the SEC title contenders. This was all done to fuel the fire for Bama to make it a solid season. And this is exactly what Coach Prime is using on his boys now. “Resist the temptation to believe that you’ve arrived….. No, you ain’t… Cause if you believe that, then why didn’t you believe when they said you was garbage?” Deion Sanders mentioned. Let’s take a small psychology class. At the root of it, the “rat poison psychology” is nothing but having faith in yourself. People around you will say a lot of things. For the Buffs, after the Huskers game, everyone dragged the team through the mud. But did they not bounce back from it? That is exactly what matters.

Matt Rhule, exposing Deion’s fatal flaws, was the most perfect thing that could’ve happened for the boys. The offense suddenly started stepping up and Shedeur Sanders had much better protection from the pocket. And for the defense? Robert Livingstone did his magic and made Colorada a defense powerhouse who barely allowed any opponents to cross past 30 points.

Now you might say 30 points ain’t a big deal. But for a team that was averaging 35 points in defense in almost every single game last season, it is a big deal. Even against Kansas State, they would’ve won if it wasn’t for the Jayce Brown last-moment 50-yard touchdown. The Buffs were on a lead by 28-24 in a game WHERE THEY DIDN’T HAVE TRAVIS HUNTER. He-k, they even lost Jimmy Horn Jr. and Omarion Miller.

And if we look at the Texas Tech game, this is what peak Buffs football looks like. These guys were down 13-0 in the first quarter. What happened after that? Shedeur and Travis Hunter locked in. Shedeur managed to snag 3 touchdowns along with 291 yards and Hunter got 1 touchdown with 9 receptions. Just 3 more wins are needed to secure a playoff ticket. So can Coach Prime get it done?

You know a team is killing it out there when Paul Finebaum has to say that he was wrong. “Not a playoff team” and “Hollywood”. These were the biggest complaints Finebaum had against Coach Prime and it was understandable. However, back on ESPN First Take, Finebaum retracts his statements and admits he was wrong about Deion Sanders. And this is just one W. Time to set your sights on the next one.

Coming up on the list are the Utes. Utah is on a 4-5 season and they ain’t having fun. If the Buffs keep on the same momentum, they did against Texas Tech, then this game should end up being nothing more than stat-padding for Deion and Co.

However, the next game could be a challenge. See, you can say that the Jayhawks are a struggling team. And you’d be right. That 2-6 run screams “bad”. But what you also gotta keep in mind is that this is the same team that managed to almost take over the Wildcats. Kansas State had a very close game against the Jayhawks and managed to win with a close 29-27 score. All Coach Prime has to do is bring back the same D-line energy that he did against the Red Raiders.

Finally, it is Oklahoma St. The Cowboys are a hopeless mess. Last year they managed to sneak into the Texas Bowl, but this time with 3-7 under their belt? Yeah, no Bowl games for you. But, again, cannot take it lightly. Every time Shedeur and Co. have taken a game lightly, they have suffered. They gotta keep that rat-poison mentality locked in and look forward to performing even better. Cause just like Deion Sanders pointed out; “We have not arrived. We are a work in progress.”
