Oh no! Notre Dame Fighting Irish football’s wallet just took a sack. Head coach Marcus Freeman decided to be on the upper hand after shelling out the cash to Northern Illinois. But poor Freeman! All went in vain. And guess what’s the amount they just lost? 1.4 million dollars!

The Northern Illinois got the money in one hand and threw the deadliest blow to Notre Dame, who lost in a home game on September 7 at the Notre Dame Stadium. While they were still dealing with the loss, the fans turned them up as the ultimate laughing stock for their costly move going awry.

A $1.4 million loss shattered Marcus Freeman’s high hopes.

Freeman’s tribe started on high notes this season– with their momentous win against Texas A&M last Saturday, August 31. They aspired for good times ahead, especially after their four-touchdown favorite. But maybe they only focused on the end goal without considering the speed bumps. This left them bamboozled when Northern Illinois stunned them, 16-14 with Kanon Woodill appearing as the ultimate villain scoring a 35-yard field goal with 31 seconds remaining. But all this had been okay in case this loss had not left Freeman and Co. with a hole in their pocket.

Going by the reports, Notre Dame owed Northern Illinois $1.4 million for Saturday’s face-off as per the terms of a contract. The deal dates back to February 2019 and was signed involving the Irish to pay the Huskies the hefty amount no later than 60 days after the game’s completion.

And guess what? From here, Freeman’s woes continue as this was not the only ‘buy game’ they have this season. They have agreed to pay $1.25 million to Miami (Ohio) on September 1. All these were enough for fans to troll them even harder.

Upset fans react to Notre Dame’s costly misstep

Fans took to the comment section to unleash their fury at Freeman and Co.’s faltering performance. One of them couldn’t help but commend Thomas Hammock’s squad’s brilliant move in bolstering their bank account as well as their position on the scoreboard, “$1.4 million just to see Northern Illinois do the greatest thing for the entire world and beat their as-es.  Job well done!”

While another fan is amused at the fact that for Freeman’s tribe, these blunders have become a habit now but still they make it to the top, “I feel like some version of this happens to Notre Dame every year yet somehow they are always a preseason top 10.” Mitch Jeter and his teammates not doing their best left a fan comment, “Notre Dame fans deserve everything they’re getting right now. This was a great win for Northern Illinois.”

Notre Dame’s loss has been so vivid that a fan could easily list it among the worst, “Top 10 worst loss ever.” As much as it has been a costly loss in terms of their emotions, it left their bank balance leave a heavy huff of hopelessness, “That’s an expensive loss.” Let’s see if Marcus Freeman can work some magic and stop the cash drain.
