Can Quinn Ewers outshine Arch Manning and prove he's the true leader of the Longhorns?

We already hopped on to the hype train of Quinn Ewers, and all for the right reasons. There’s no shame in saying that the head Longhorn, Steve Sarkisian, has one of the best rosters under his belt right now. Ewers has managed to average 200+ passing yards in all the 4 games he has started in. But will the final boss of quarterbacks be in the front again when the Longhorns face Georgia Bulldogs tomorrow?

There’s also hype surrounding his young replacement, Arch Manning. After Ewers threw his first interception in that Oklahoma game, some fans called for Manning to replace him. This theory came into discussion when Manning filled in after Quinn’s injury. Despite being out for 2 games, Ewers has still managed to lock in 9 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and a QBR of 82.9. So, perhaps he stands on a higher ground.

The battle starts for Quinn Ewers

That said, Quinn Ewers is all set to start against the Bulldogs, and it’s no surprise why. The Texas Longhorns have been riding a wave of success this season, with Ewers steering the ship. After returning from an injury earlier this season, getting straight to business, Ewers continues the Longhorns’ undefeated record, making a mockery of a rivalry game. His numbers tell the tale—the Texas signal-caller has been throwing for around 200-300 yards per game, and his ability to manage the game under pressure has been clutch. Look at his 20-of-29 passing performance against Oklahoma, for instance, showed not just efficiency but a cool head in one of the most heated rivalries in college football.

Sure, Arch Manning might be waiting in the wings, but Ewers has solidified his spot as the leader of this offense. His understanding of Steve Sarkisian’s system makes him get that start. As Texas gears up for a Smart battle, Sarkisian has no reason to shuffle the lineup, especially with the dude playing so consistently well. Hey, I’m not saying this; it’s the stats.

First taste of a ‘Smart’ battle for Ewers

What makes this matchup even more exciting is that the Texas #3 has never faced a Kirby Smart-coached team before. While the Bulldogs have been, well, bullies in college football, Ewers will be stepping into unfamiliar territory. However, it’s not a one-sided affair. The head coach of the Bulldogs acknowledges that Ewers is no ordinary quarterback.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Quinn Ewers outshine Arch Manning and prove he's the true leader of the Longhorns?

Have an interesting take?

But Kirby Smart is being too humble, considering the behemoth he is hiding. Y’all know who. Carson Beck. A guy who threw 439 passing yards against Bama. Yes, one may argue that Beck has thrown quite a few interceptions, but those are part of the game. In the end, what matters is a ‘W’ on your record, and the Bulldogs have succeeded in that in their last two games.

Being that complete team that the Longhorns are- they would not want the game to turn into a QB vs QB battle. Texas’ defense has yet to have a bad game. Their success against the run game, their D-line, especially, makes them one of the fiercest defense in the country. And as we discussed, they are quite good offensively as well. Will that give Kirby Smart a second loss this season? Last time that happened? It was in the COVID season in 2020. Let’s see if Texas managed to make the Bulldogs go through that again.
