There is one 99-year-old lady, Ms. Peggy Coppom, who is something of a living legend. She is a true die-hard of the Colorado Buffaloes. She has been their fan for several years and deserves to be loved back by the fans and the Buffs players. People easily recognize Peggy as she is always at the games and they regard her as very dedicated because she never tires. But as the Colorado Buffaloes prepare for their big game against North Dakota State University (NDSU) a question on everyone’s lips is: will Peggy be watching them from the sidelines?
Even though she is quite old, Peggy has barely been absent from the game. It does not matter if it is football or basketball; she is always at the games, wearing black and gold, waving her pom-poms as if she were half her age. Her being around is a moral to not only the team but everyone in the community. “She’s like the heart and soul of this place,” a CU fan once said. “When Peggy’s here, you just feel the energy in the stadium go up a notch.”
Recently, Peggy celebrated her 99th birthday, with her Buffs apparel, and anticipating the next season. However, with the next game against NDSU, all the fans would like to know whether Peggy is going to continue her streak of game-day appearances. Given her track record, she would not want to be at home, especially for the season opener.

The link she has with the players, the coaches, and the fans is very special. In all this, Peggy was not alone. She has a twin sister: Patty (Patricia) DeVaughn, who is often seen with her attending and sharing the same love for the Buffs’.

It may be wrong to say that Peggy does not care for the Buffs: she is a dedicated individual, not just showing up for the game, but carrying on the work she has done for years. Peggy is one of the first people who got introduced to Coach Prime, and Deion Sanders when he joined the Buffs. Their relationship has already been depicted and Sanders himself once even declared how the presence of Peggy inspires him and the entire team. “Having Peggy in the stands is like having a guardian angel,” Sanders once said. “She’s a part of this team, just as much as any player or coach.”

Concerning the match against NDSU, the game is an important one for the Buffs. During their last season, they had many successes and failures, so the team is in great desire to go on the field and, while doing it, have Peggy in the stands, as their symbol of good luck. It’s become a part of the game-day experience. That is why it is not unusual for players to look up to the stands and see Peggy encouraging them to go on and work harder.
If Peggy decides to come to the game, it won’t be just another appearance, it will be the carry-on of something great that cheers up fans and players. Of course, her physical condition and her age can be a matter of concern, yet Peggy has proved numerous times that nothing can stop a fan from supporting their Buffs. Whether it rains or snows, the stand where Peggy sits will be an important view of the game.
