“I would have him on a very short leash.” Looks like Steve Sarkisian is finally listening and feeding the narrative. QB Quinn Ewers is being hit or miss this year with injury issues, it hasn’t been taken that well by the Longhorns fanbase. See, after the Roadrunners game, Ewers missed the next few showdowns, and Arch Manning had to carry the Longhorns. This instance alone managed to switch the narrative to, “Make Manning QB1” and while Steve Sarkisian was rigid as ever, to not let go of his favorite boy. However, it looks like Sark has changed his mind?
Back on Instagram, Rivals dropped a bomb update regarding Ewers and Arch and what Sarkisian has finally decided to do for the Clemson game. “Arch Manning is ready to roll,” Rivals mentioned in the caption of their post. Yeah, so this is weird. We are watching the game and it is Ewers who are playing and not Arch. Is Rivals living in an alternate reality? Even a fan called Rivals out under their comment section. “Arch wasn’t even the one breaking down the huddle the m–t riding y’all be doing is insane,” a fan wrote. See after the entire debacle that went down during the SEC title game against Georgia, it is even surprising that Longhorns fans want Arch to start in a prime-time game but to create a fake story? Not a good look.

But see, with the injury to his leg, Ewers was a complete mess in that Dawgs game. Barely landed 27 out of the 46 total pass attempts and had a completion of around 58%. This is a disaster when you look at it from the perspective that Quinn Ewers is an elite QB.
Even Shannon Sharpe had highlighted the ongoing issues. “Some of the mistakes he makes, bro, I’m like what?” Sharpe had mentioned. This being their first-ever game against Clemson Tigers, Sark doesn’t want to risk the team’s reputation.
We already know that Texas is the favorite in this game. They probably have the 2nd best defense in the country, and their running back and wide receiver depth are just too good. Clemson, on the other hand, is purely dependent on QB Cade Klubnik and RB Phil Mafah. If Texas’s defense curbs that, then what do the Tigers have? Regardless of what happens, someone out there thinks that there could be a possibility that despite the final result of the natty run (on which Texas is doing pretty good at 28-10), Ewers might end up leaving the Hook’em gang.

NFL Rookie Watch was the first to report this news on X. There have been ongoing rumors about Ewers hitting the transfer and playing for one more season before going to the NFL. Now this could very well be false, but Rookie Watch also pointed out that UNC HC Bill Belichick is reportedly interested in getting Ewers.
See, this move is good for his NFL career. Right now, grade-wise, Ewers ain’t doing that good. He could go for a potential 3rd or 4th round pick, but even that feels like a distant dream.
Sticking around for one more season could help him bounce back and get his stats together. UNC is also a good starting point. Yes, the Tar Heels had a disaster run, which caused their HC Mack Brown to get fired, but at the same time, they now have an NFL HC on their team.
