Can Alabama's defense hold strong without Justin Jefferson, or is his presence crucial for victory?

This one is kind of weird, so we gotta bring out the time machine and take y’all back to the Wisconsin game. Senior LB Justin Jefferson is one of the key players of the Tide defense. DC Kane Wommack has often regarded Jefferson as one of the best players in holding up the entire defense. Back when the Tide fought it off against USF, Justin Jefferson was called out for the entire first half because of his apparent “targeting” hit on USF quarterback Byrum Brown.

Now, as the Crimson Tide gears up to fight it off against Vanderbilt, the SEC availability report shows that Jefferson is reduced to a Game Time Decision. Tony Tsoukalas took to X to share, “Alabama linebacker Justin Jefferson has been downgraded to a game-time decision in the final SEC availability report for Alabama at Vanderbilt.” This raises major concerns for the team and how the entire game is going to pan out.

If you didn’t know, being marked as a “Game Time Decision” would mean that the player’s availability for the game is uncertain and will only be cleared out moments before the game starts. This rule is generally applied to those players who are going through an injury or an illness.

If we check the Bama injury report, we can spot that Jefferson was listed as probable on it, and Kendrick Law was marked as questionable. While Law’s case is clear, as he had sustained a leg injury during the Bulldogs showdown, Jefferson’s entire scene is still in the dark. During the showdown we did spot Jefferson walking into the locker room but with a towel over his head.

Could this mean that the Linebacker had sustained head-related injuries? Everything is too uncertain. However, what we do know is that even if Kalen DeBoer and Co. lose out on Jefferson, the rest of the team is more than competent enough to carry a dub home.

Against the Dawgs, we saw what the Tide are truly capable of. It was as if Kirby Smart was losing to Nick Saban himself. The entire offense had a chokehold on the Dawgs in the first half. Pulling in 21-0 in the first quarter itself, things did look like they were going down the drain for Smart.

However, QB Carson Beck and Co. showed major progress in the 4th quarter and managed to grab the lead. But the rush lasted only for so long. WR Ryan Williams brought the win home with his solid touchdown at the 2-minute mark in the 4th quarter.

It was beautiful to watch this guy flex his muscles with their Michael Jackson shoes on. Even if Jefferson stays out of the game against Vanderbilt, the Bama D-line is strong enough to hold back the Commodores.
