Is Vodney Cleveland the savior Alabama needs to secure Kalen DeBoer's uncertain future?

Even during their no-game weekend, Bama remained in the news and got lucky for the third time in chasing their recruits. The Crimson Tide boosted their defense, adding a four-star recruit of the 2026 class, Vodney Cleveland, to the trenches. The No. 7 DL, ranked nationally, is a Tank.

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman is a mix of size, agility, and speed, making him a standout in the defensive lineup. Where he’s already turned heads at major showcases like the Magic City event in Birmingham. Vodney Cleveland attends Parker High School in Birmingham and is the No. 95 overall player, according to 247Sports. Cleveland is a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line. He chose Alabama over a host of other top-tier programs, including Tennessee, Oregon, Miami, and more. Talk about making a splash!

As a junior, he’s already racked up 38 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and five sacks, helping guide the Parker Thundering Herd to a 9-1 record. His high school career began at Prattville before he transferred to Parker, and he’s been making waves ever since.

This dude is one to boast for Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class, which ranks 2nd in the nation for 2025. With his ability to stuff running lanes and wreak havoc up front is expected to be a cornerstone of the Crimson Tide’s defense. Think of him as the next Tim Keenan III, ready to cause nightmares for opposing offensive linemen. “He’s gotten so much better,” Parker head coach Frank Warren told Rivals. “He is a lottery pick if he keeps getting better.”

Vodney said Alabama is the one after getting offers from 20+ schools. Cleveland’s commitment is a testament to Alabama’s recruiting prowess under head coach Kalen DeBoer. DeBoer and his staff have been working tirelessly to build a top-tier recruiting class. However, with two losses and playoff contention at high risk, dark clouds are glooming over the head coach’s position. Vodney’s commitment could mean the world for DeBoer. The defense is their second 2026 commitment. They also managed to trap four-star cornerback Dorian Barney.

And, with almost 23 commitments for 2025, Alabama and DeBoer seem to water the next crop of players. But don’t forget commitments can flip. Ask Georgia, they would know a thing or two about it. Hope it won’t happen with Vodney Cleveland.
