Is Garrett Riley destined to outshine his brother Lincoln in the world of football coaching?

“I never thought about it growing up,” said Lincoln Riley‘s father, Mike Riley, to ensure that until Lincoln’s senior year of high school, he didn’t even know his son was interested in coaching. However, Muleshoe is now the head coach of the USC Trojans, and before that, he coached the Oklahoma team. During his tenure at the Sooners, he helped the team earn three College Football Playoff appearances, four Big 12 championships, and two Heisman Trophies, along with a 55-10 record.

However, some believe the reason for his success is his deep connection with the root, no matter how far he gets geographically. Therefore, his family and culture work as a spur to his journey with college football. The most intriguing fact is that Lincoln does not have an athletic background, as his father works in agriculture and has run a cotton warehouse for years. Although the talented coach has a brother with a mutual passion for football, there was the typical childhood rivalry between the pair. Let’s delve deep into it.

Lincoln’s brother, Garrett Riley, who is six years younger than him, currently serves Clemson as a new offensive coordinator. Before Clemson, Garrett coordinated TCU’s offense and helped them become a playoff contender in college football in 2022. Along with that, he worked with Sonny Dykes to become the runner-up for the 2022 Heisman Trophy. Therefore, it is pretty clear that both brothers are experts in their fields. Let’s have a look at their childhood lives.

Garrett and Lincoln were both coached by David Wood, Muleshoe High School’s football coach, since the spring of 1996. Besides this, both of them started to play football at Muleshoe High School. The younger Riley helped Mules win the 2008 Class 2A Division I state championship as a quarterback.

On the other hand, praising Lincoln, Wood said, “I knew he’d be the best next coach at a major Division I school. Before he even went to Oklahoma, he was talking to some other major colleges.” Adding, “His mind was just brilliant. No matter what he decided to go into,”.Let’s concentrate on the brother of the USC HC.

Garrett never followed in the footsteps of Lincoln, even when his brother was a coach in Oklahoma. Instead, he found his footing at Kansas under David Beaty. In the present scenario, he is perhaps one step away from earning head coaching consideration, despite his young age.

However, both of the brothers bloomed into a supportive and encouraging dynamic as they worked in the same field. But in an interview, when asked what he thought about hiring his brother, he stated, “I never thought I’d talk about this one on camera,” as he believes work and family should not be mixed; moreover, as a big brother, he wants his brother to be able to find success independent of his family.
