And now, his son is an offensive line coach at OSU, following in his father’s footsteps. “That final day, he told me and my sister, Ashley, that he was sorry. That was the biggest thing I can remember.” Justin stated, recalling his last day with his father.

It was not surprising that Kevin Frye, who was a great role model for those who knew him, apologized to his family on his deathbed because he would no longer be available for them. After a new brain tumor was discovered in May 2005, Justin’s father was given three to six months to live, and he ultimately lost his seven-year battle with illness in 2006.

It’s safe to say that Kevin’s lengthy battle with illness made his son mature quickly. “From that time when Kevin passed, I could see this strong young man in front of me that was Justin, taking care of business, comforting me. He just took over that role. It was unbelievable,” his mother, Rose, recounted after Kevin’s death. It reflects not only Justin’s difficult existence but also the closeness of the family.
