Mike Denbrock, the name certainly evokes strong emotions for all Notre Dame fans. And it certainly should, considering his history and emotional connection with the team. I mean, this is the man who, in his first stint with the team ,played a pivotal role in producing players like Ryan Grant, Julius Jones, and Ryan Harris. Not only did these players have illustrious careers in the NFL, but, more importantly, they performed like beasts in Collegiate football. For starters, Running Backs Ryan Grant and Julius Jones were few among the 1000-yard rushers in 2002. Furthermore, Denbrock’s Tight Ends and Offensive Tackles ran havoc on gridiron throughout his first stint (2002-2004).

After his departure in 2005, Denbrock went to work for Washington and later to Indiana. However, it seems like the Irish were the ones where his heart truly was set. He rejoined the team in 2010 under head coach Brian Kellly and began coaching the Tight Ends. It would be an understatement to say that he was just a coach. Because under his tutelage, TEs like Kyle Rudolph and Tyler Eifert found their rhythm. Eifert not only won the Mackey Award in 2012 but was a first-round pick of the Bengals in the NFL draft. Denbrock did leave Notre Dame again in 2014, but not for long. He would be back again as Offensive Coordinator in 2023 under head coach Marcus Freeman after stints with the Bearcats and LSU Tigers.

Denbrock’s heroics and his unique coaching philosophy are well-known in the footballing world. His history and exploits at LSU certainly would have played a crucial role in giving him one of the top payday spots in the team. For a man who only in his first season helped the Tigers rake up almost 3800 yards and guided his ace quarterback Joe Burrow to win the Heisman Trophy, it is a big deal. This feat alone should guarantee him a hefty paycheck at Notre Dame.

Thus, his Contract guaranteeing him $2.1 Million annually for 4 years certainly makes him one of the highest-paid OC in the Nation. Furthermore, FootballScoop has also reported that apart from his $2 Million payment, the deal to hire him from LSU was valued at around $9 Million. And that doesn’t even include other incentives like Playoffs or Bowl appearances.
