Can Malik Hornsby's switch to WR make Arkansas State a serious contender this season?

A kid who learned that football was the only thing he wanted to pursue for the rest of his life turned out to be a true visionary. The kid in question is none other than Malik Hornsby. The Arkansas State sensation has been making waves in the college football realm ever since he joined forces with the Red Wolves earlier this year. He immediately caught eyeballs during the team’s spring practice session with his rare command over the offensive unit. Now coming fresh off a new season, all eyes are on the 24-year-old impact WR.

The Red Wolves are 2-0 after comeback wins over Tulsa and FCS Central Arkansas with a trip to Iowa State. As they look to throw an upset at the Michigan Wolverines the next, Hornsby’s action will be on the front burner. Before the final bell rings, we get to see another captivating performance by the former Texas State QB. Let’s pipe through his journey to the helm of today’s eminence.

‘There’s no place like home’: Hornsby cited the primitive reason for joining Texas State as a red-shirt junior quarterback. The Missouri City native started to live his dream under the esteemed guidance of his teammates and coaches in Texas, and that passionate endeavor started to bear fruit pretty early. The young genius took his team to two consecutive state championship games and mounted a 25-3 record as a starting quarterback. Hornsby’s exceptional arm strength, insane track speed, and unwavering leadership approach gradually became a crucial asset that the team looked up to.

These startling stats and prowess are, however, a continuation of his high school (Fort Bend Marshall) legacy, where he amassed over 5,000 total yards and 82 touchdowns. Recalling his wholesome school football era, the veteran said, ‘When I got to high school, I started as a freshman on varsity. Doing that and going to workouts and seeing guys around the country putting my talent with their talent and coming out as the best I knew I had a chance at this.”

His untamed grit and records quite obviously made him a highly sought-after player who received a slew of offers from top-notch institutions, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Texas A&M, and others. The lad had a brief stint with North Carolina before switching to Arkansas and Texas.

Arkansas made him the star he currently is, giving him abundant space to bloom out on his own. Hornsby passed for 314 yards and one touchdown, with an overall 18 of 39 passes. He also rushed for 307 yards and one touchdown on 57 attempts. But the real banger he posted in a marquee game against Mississippi State, throwing for 234 yards, rushing for 114 yards, and accounting for three plays of 50+ yards.

What led Malik Hornsby to transfer to Arkansas State?

Dynamism enables the 24-year-old to challenge and re-explore his talent in new ways, a signature quality of a class player. But his latest transfer is more related to a role change than anything else. After the QB announced, his decision to jump ship, sources confirmed that he would switch from quarterback to wide receiver, aiming to fill the gap left by Jeff Foreman, who graduated.

For the Bobcats last season, he scored 8 of 15 passes for 83 yards with an interception. He also ran for 229 yards on 35 carries and had six touchdowns and caught a pass for 2 yards.
