I was always around ball my whole life. I always wanted the ball in my hand, last inning, last minute of the game. That was always my mentality, said Garrett Greene, the starting quarterback for the WVM. It shows how committed and passionate Garrett is as a player. However, the star quarterback struggled to establish a rhythm in the first half of Saturday’s game against Kansas State. Two interceptions marred his effort, as he only gained a meager 85 yards on nine of his nineteen throwing attempts.

Charlie used to be an MLB pitcher, but Garrett was never able to watch his father play. His career ended in 2000, shortly before Garrett was born. Even though Charlie Greene didn’t bat much during his five years in MLB, he was a proven defensive catcher. He started his coaching career after his playing days ended in 2003, which spanned three seasons in the lower leagues after being demoted to AAA. Charlie is presently the catching instructor and field coordinator for the Milwaukee Brewers.

But in addition to his father, Garrett’s late grandfather, Charlie Green, was a renowned junior college baseball instructor. If you notice, Garrett chooses to play football even though his family has a rich history in baseball. But when and why? Let’s explore.

Garrett’s Journey from MLB Royalty to Starter

Garrett actually pitched in the bullpen as a teenager, catching fastballs that were hitting 95 miles per hour when his father didn’t have a catcher. The gun-wielding son, who has learnt how to produce at the top level from his early lessons, keeps a tight relationship with his father. However, Garrett had to wait until seventh grade to be permitted to play football.

Greene didn’t begin playing quarterback until ninth grade, despite watching football with his father. David Morris began instructing him in that area in Mobile, at QB Country. He was a running back before that. “I always had a great arm, but this position is so much more than throwing balls to receivers. It’s really a way of life. You’re not just a quarterback on the field, you’re a quarterback in all aspects of life.” mentioned Garrett, referring to his current role on the West Virginia team. The famous quarterback is now concentrating on getting ready for his upcoming task.
