Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers are on fire! They’ve got a perfect 7-0 record, and their defense is absolutely smothering. Who would’ve thought Indiana would be the talk of the Big Ten? But hey, as Cignetti himself confidently said, “It’s very easy. I win.” And who deserves credit for his Big Ten dominance? While Cignetti undoubtedly plays a significant role, his supportive wife, Manette Lawer, is often overlooked.
Lawer’s unwavering sacrifice and support have been instrumental in his success, and their story is a testament to the power of partnership. Curt began moving up the assistant coaching ladder after two years at Pitt, first as QB and WR coach at Davidson, then as the QB coach at Rice, and finally as the quarterbacks coach at Temple. In the process, he met and wed Manette Lawer, a native of Indiana, Pennsylvania. After getting married, he started to worry more about his family than about making infinite rounds on the coaching tree, but that won’t stop this gifted coach from succeeding in the future. Thanks to his wife, Manette.

During an interview, Curt Cignetti stated, “We were pretty fortunate in that after I got married in 1989, we didn’t move all that much, at least compared to a lot of others. I was at Temple when we got married. We moved in ’92 to Pitt, but that was almost like going home, because my wife was from Indiana.” Moreover, he mentioned, “I want to thank my wife Manette for allowing me to do what I love to do. Without her, this wouldn’t be possible. We’re a team.” It indicates their bond is a testament to mutual respect and understanding.
The couple is blessed with three children: Curtis John, Carly Ann, and Natalie Elise. The pair will celebrate their 35 years of blissful marriage this year. Last year, Curt celebrated their 34th anniversary by sharing a post with the caption “Anniversary #34.” About a year ago, the couple paid $2.6 million to acquire the 13.3-acre property, a 9,400-square-foot Sterling Woods house.

Curt Cignetti’s praise for players
Curt Cignetti told the reporters following their resounding victory over Nebraska, “Great win.” Last Saturday, RB Justice Ellison played some impressive football, scoring two touchdowns and gaining 105 yards on the ground. It was the Hoosiers’ finest start in 57 years. However, the game did also bring some concerns for the team. After the first half, QB Kurtis Rourke had to leave the field due to an injury to his right hand. After seizing the opportunity, Tayven Jackson continued to play the rest of the game.

According to Sports Illustrated, HC highlighted the game’s turning point. “Let me say this. Shawn Asbury’s play (a 78-yard interception return) was probably the big play in the game. There were a lot of big plays in that game, but that was a real momentum-turning play.”
It seems like all of the accolades and recognition are due to the coach and his coaching style for the team. Going forward, we’ll see if the Hoosiers can keep up their winning streak against the Huskies when the College GameDay visits the program to further escalate a well-deserved spotlight.
