Home/College Football

Georgia Tech shook things up by handing the undefeated Miami Hurricanes their first loss of the season, and head coach Brent Key earned the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week for it. And it’s his second time snagging the award this season! Well, definitely his talent paid him well. But we must admit that his Lady Luck too favored his fortune to be in the limelight. Brent got married to the love of his life, Danielle Key in 2017. However, they courted each other over a long period of time until they thought of sealing their bond with “I do.” Since then, he never had to look back. Brent might have graced different programs with his mentoring skills ever since he stepped into college football, but the love of his life has been there through thick and thin. Brent and Danielle also have a loving daughter, Harper

Well, fans know how Danielle has been a supportive life partner for Brent. But not many know how their love story blossomed. When the now-Georgia Tech HC was at the University of Central Florida, he met Danielle, his now-better half. There, she worked on the marketing team for UCF’s athletic department. That’s when they got to know each other through a mutual friend. However, it took them long to escalate their friendship into a romantic one. Brent’s wife once said that they were friends for five long years after they thought of giving it a try and went on their first date. We must admit that Danielle is the one who keeps the spark alive in the Yellow Jackets HC’s life.

At least her witty words are enough for us to believe so. For instance, in an interview, when asked about what she does, Georgia Tech’s first lady came up with a fun reply, “Brent and I joke that I’m his life coach. I try to keep life in order.” Even though her husband’s life is all about football, she has developed an interest in golf. Kudos to her for being an HC’s wife, dodging the uncertainties like a pro, and accepting life as it comes. “We’ve had pretty good highs and some pretty bad lows when he got fired. We were coming off a difficult time and fell into the best situation possible here,” she said.

While most people know Danielle as Brent’s wife, not many know she has a master’s degree in mass communication from UCF and served in the sports marketing domain for six long years. She and Brent now have a loving family raising their five-year-old daughter Harper and Bear, their golden retriever. Like Danielle, Harper too is Brent’s biggest fan!

The little one is only five years old, but the toddler has already picked up a deep interest in his dad’s sport. Brent’s daughter is often spotted with her mother lifting up her dad’s spirit during the pre-game routine. November 29 marked an important day for the Yellow Jackets. After all, they had to face off against Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs. Ever since Brent stepped into the HC role for Georgia Tech, he did not win even once against Smart’s army. But the HC’s lil princess hardly cares whether her dad wins or loses.

On Saturday, before the big game, Brent was spotted in a light mood, chatting with Harper as Danielle soaked in the happy moment standing beside them. As the clip went viral, it was enough to make the fans’ hearts melt. Harper was spotted handing her dad something. Well, that was the bracelet that she usually makes for the HC before every game. Remember the last time when the five-year-old gifted a beaded “Dada” bracelet?

This time, apart from the bracelet, Harper gave Brent Key a tight hug followed by a kiss. Yes, how lucky the Georgia Tech HC is. Winning games may be tough, but at least he is rich in love. Thanks to his supportive wife Danielle and his loving daughter Harper, who makes him feel like a champion every day.
