Guy Haberman and Yogi Roth—Are they the best duo in college football commentary today?

USC is gearing up to compete against Utah State in their second game of the season, after a sizzling start to the session last week with a smooth 27-20 win against No. 13 LSU. The Trojans will aim for a higher goal this week, in front of a psyched-up homegrown crowd. Although the Aggies have a very slim scope to get the upper hand, considering their previous records against USC ( 6 consecutive defeats). So, it’s going to be a pretty chilled yet exciting match for the Trojans.

But one underrated X factor about the match was its incredible host’s trio: announcer Guy Haberman, analyst Yogi Roth, and sideline reporter Rhett Lewis. Let’s meet the voice behind the screen a bit more extensively.

Former Pitt wide receiver Roth has been a popular voice behind the broadcasting of some high-flying Big Ten Network matches. His on-point nuanced approach to the nitty gritty of the match made fans more inquisitive to pay heed to what they hear rather than what they watch on the screen sometimes. He also channels his passion for the sport through a podcast program, serving some unique perspective to the plate of keen fans. But this is not it for the broadcasting mogul. He had a splendid career as a USC quarterbacks coach between 2004-2005.

Coming to the quintessential announcer, Guy Haberman, who has been rolling up as the lead host of the Pac-12 networks based in San Francisco for nearly a decade, will also be a thing to hear out for on the comparatively less nerve-wracking USC vs Utah state game. The 37-year-old also had a formidable time as play-by-play and studio host of NBA Sports.

Last but not least, another prodigy in the hit list, Rhett, has been a commendable NFL Network broadcaster and a former Indiana wide receiver.

While both three will be on the focus tonight, Lewis is calling for a bit more than others as he has a recent role change on TV.

Rhett Lewis’ esteemed background and journey

Lewis, too, has had a distinguished on-field tenure. He used to play at IU as Rhett Kleinschmidt. He fit a promising kick holder and a reserve receiver’s shoes representing the Hoosiers from 2001 to 2005. A remarkable game against Michigan came off watershed moments of his career where he mounted eye-soothing catches (two) and yards (28). But after a while, his sports communication degree wanted to ooze out and hence a greater broadcasting career panned out.

Sharing the strong blood connection with the sport having father Dean Kleinschmidt as a head trainer in the NFL (National Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame) for years, it became easier for Lewis to capitalize on sports zeal in the best way possible.

He recently walked out from the color commentator post on IU football radio broadcasts after delivering for two banger seasons and shifted his focus to the role of an on-field reporter for Big Ten Network.
