He is simply coaches’ darling! “I think the sky’s the limit for that young man,” said Bruce Rollinson, the longtime Mater Dei football coach who mentored Raleek Brown in high school. Even Mori Sue’sue, Raleek’s youth coach, echoes those sentiments. You just know sometimes you get that gut feeling, that undeniable sense of confidence. And nothing can shake it. When Mori Sue Sue saw Raleek Brown on a football field, he felt that way.

He was aware of Brown’s quick yet fluid movements at the age of twelve, as he skillfully cut on one dime after another, juking past defenders like they were standing still. Many great coaches have guided him, but his father has been the biggest influence on the Arizona State running back’s career.

Roscoe Brown is the father of Raleek Brown. He has been instrumental in Raleek’s football career, mentoring him from an early age and helping him grow as a player. Roscoe has been crucial in assisting Raleek in making the switch from flag football to contact leagues by spotting his skill early on and providing him with more training opportunities.

After graduating from Mater Dei High, Raleek was a highly rated RB who dazzled with six touchdowns in his rookie season and a few bursts of kick return skill. However, it was reported last spring that he had to switch positions and enter a packed receiving room.

Roscoe Brown even met with USC Trojans’ HC Lincoln Riley, and according to Roscoe, the coach laid out a plan for him to play 60% at slot receiver and 40% at running back. “That’s what we were hoping for,” Roscoe said. “Lincoln hasn’t made that switch yet like he told Raleek.” After that meeting, Brown entered the transfer portal as a running back.

Roscoe Brown’s involvement in community activities extends beyond Raleek’s football career, especially through the R&R Brown’s Push Project. It seeks to uplift young people and improve parent-child ties. The project hosted 550 kids. “We wanted to come back and give back to our community,” said Roscoe. In Raleek Brown’s personal and professional life, however, his mother is just as important as his father.

California’s Stockton is where Raleek Brown was raised. There, he started his football career by participating in neighborhood leagues and rapidly became known for his extraordinary skill. Before moving to Mater Dei High School for his junior and senior years, Raleek proceeded to succeed in football at Edison High School in Stockton, where he received recognition and made a name for himself as a standout player.

As a sophomore at Edison, Raleek ran for 1,688 yards as a freshman and was selected to the MaxPreps’ Freshman All-American first team. He also recorded 1,663 yards from scrimmage with 26 total TDs. At Mater Dei High School, Brown was named one of the state’s best players in his senior year and won awards, including All-CIF Division 1 Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

With an average of 7.9 yards per run and 15 touchdowns, he ran for 1,123 yards on 143 carries. With a record of 12-0 and numerous titles, including the national championship and the CIF Southern Section Division I Championship in 2021, Mater Dei had a perfect season thanks to his effort.
