God, family, sports, and music are the four words describing Wolf’s entire family. The surname Wolf carries a reputation and significant weight in Cincinnati, Ohio. The legacy can often mean pressure on your shoulders as you step onto the field. But Chase Wolf, a three-star recruit and a quarterback for the

Wisconsin Badgers, doesn’t see it as pressure. It’s an opportunity to do what multiple Wolf generations have done: be the best in what you do.

The 2018 Mr. Greater Cincinnati Athlete of the Year is the son of Steve Wolf, a 1978 St. Xavier High School grad who went on to play basketball and tennis at North Carolina State and Xavier University, and Jeanne Wolf. The 6-foot-1-inch player started his high school career with Saint Xavier. Chase excelled in his junior and senior years with Xavier and was a key player on his Ohio Division I state championship team. In his senior year, he led his team and earned first-team All-Ohio honors. Let’s get to know more about Steve, his wife Jeanne, and their kids.

Meet Chase Wolf’s athletic family

Chase’s dad, Steve Wolf, is the son of Charley, who is a known face in their hometown. Charley has often supported his son and his grandchildren by showing up in the stands. Moreover, he has served as head coach for the Cincinnati Royals and Detroit Pistons. He was a great athlete in his days, playing basketball, baseball, and football. His wife, Loraine, passed away at 87. The couple raised six sons. The Wolf family, with deep roots in sports, has eleven relatives who have played college sports.

Steve is the second son of the family. He always wanted a family where sports would be a common thread between all of them. Chase is the first wolf who followed in his grandfather’s footsteps of playing football. His father is a retired owner at Innovative Labeling Solutions. Before that, he was a basketball analyst at Fox Sports Net. However, in 2023, he decided to join CBS College Sports Network 2023 and work as a college basketball analyst. The retired owner at Innovative Labeling Solutions and Jeanne are parents of four kids. Jeanne is an Oak Hill graduate and studied communications at the University of Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper interviewed Jeanne and other family members. Talking about Jeanne’s hobbies, she said, “I didn’t play any team sports. I was more of a dancer and a gymnast.” According to Steve, she is still probably more flexible than everyone in the family, and others are trying to keep up with her.

The couple shares a great bond; they were married in 1996, started a business, and welcomed Sabrina, their first daughter, into the world. Stevie is Chase’s second sister, and Shayna is the youngest. All the girls in the family play volleyball. Sabrina started it, and Stevie and Shayna followed in her footsteps. Praising the daughters, Jeanne said, “She wins three state championships. Stevie, her freshman year, starts and goes to the state finals. Then Chase wins the state championship. I remember driving Stevie and Chase to school and saying, ‘Listen, it ain’t going to happen… this is crazy. I have five brothers, and none of us have gone to the state finals.” Jeanne’s comments clearly show that she is a proud mother and reflects her love for the kids.

Jeanne’s Health: A Challenge for the Wolf Family

Life sometimes takes your test, with good days and a few challenging days alike. Just as the Wolf family had good experiences and moments of joy, they faced some difficult times too. In 2015, Jeanne faced a persistent cough. Earlier, Steve and his family thought it wasn’t very serious but later found out that there was a 12-inch malignant tumor in her lung.

“I think Jeanne, who I say was not involved in athletics, gave them their toughness,” said Steve. He added, “Seriously, she had a 12-inch tumor in her lung… 23 centimeters. I got pictures of it, which actually makes me sick. Not once did she ever complain.” Steve’s unwavering support during his wife’s toughest days shows his immense love for her.

That was not the battle of Jeanne’s life. She was diagnosed with cancer in April 2017. It was the most difficult time for the family. By God’s grace, she is cancer-free. The Wolf family loves to spend time with each other. For Jeanne and Steve, their kids are really good. Beyond their sports achievements, athleticism, and talent, all of them are just good-hearted. All the family members in the family show immense love and affection towards each other.
