Parents will move mountains to give their kids every opportunity—top-tier schools, unforgettable experiences, the works. And Caden Curry’s parents? They’re no different. They’ve been the rock-solid foundation behind him, instilling a killer mindset that’s fueled his success. What did Caden learn from them?
It’s simple but powerful. As the OSU defensive end puts it, “Getting your education and staying in school. You definitely learn a lot from it.” Sure, that sounds like basic advice, but Caden takes it deeper: “Really just working for your dreams.” This guy’s got that ‘never give up’ spirit, and let’s be real, his parents deserve a huge amount of credit for getting him to where he is today.
Caden Curry is the son of Chris and Maria Curry, two people who have played a huge part in his journey from Center Grove to Ohio State. When Caden picked OSU over Indiana, his father was caught off guard. He thought, “I thought for sure he was going to be pulled in one direction.” And that direction? Bloomington, not Columbus. It wasn’t just a casual choice either; Chris knew Indiana was genuinely invested in his son’s future. Despite some setbacks, Indiana was all in, and Chris respected the Hoosiers’ plan. However, Caden’s decision was his own. And in the end, he chose OSU. His dad supported him all the way, but it wasn’t just Chris who played a big role.

Maria, Caden’s mom, is also hugely involved in his journey. Despite working for a phone service company called Genesis, she’s always been there for her son. When it came time to choose OSU over Indiana, Maria didn’t hesitate to back her son’s decision. She put it perfectly: “He definitely didn’t make the easy decision. It was the hard decision that was going to be the best for his future. We all know his goal—he wants to play on Sundays. I feel like Larry Johnson really connected with him and coach Day to give him the opportunity.”
And here’s the thing: Caden could’ve easily tweeted his commitment and called it a day. But he chose to wait until after his senior year to make it official. When he finally did announce, it wasn’t just some online post—it was in front of a packed cafeteria, with teammates, friends, and family cheering him on.
Maria couldn’t be prouder. “I was so proud of him that when it came to the state championship run, he pretty much told the college coaches, ‘This is about my team, and we want to go win a state championship.’” That’s the kind of leadership and character Maria instilled in Caden. It’s not just about individual glory—it’s about the bigger picture, team success, and loyalty.

What’s even more interesting is that Caden’s family isn’t exactly full of athletes. He has two brothers—one just started an asphalt business, and the other is a plumber. And then there’s Caden, who, as he puts it, “My family calls me Digs.” Apparently, one of his brothers randomly gave him that nickname.
And as for that familiar name, Stephen Curry?
Is Caden Curry related to Stephen Curry?
Stephen Curry has no relation to Caden Curry. Although they are both well-known in the sports world, Stephen is an NBA star for the Golden State Warriors, and Caden plays defensive end for the Buckeyes. As of now, their last names are just accidental; they have no family ties.

Born in Indiana, Caden Curry went to Center Grove High School. Because of his exceptional play, the Indiana Football Coaches Association named him Mr. Football for defensive line. He helped his team win back-to-back state titles in his senior year by recording 65 tackles, 24 of which were for loss, and seven sacks. Then he committed to OSU in 2021.
He participated in all 13 games in 2022 and made a substantial contribution with 1.5 sacks and 14 tackles. Caden continued to grow in his sophomore year, playing in all 13 games and recording nine tackles, including 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. In addition, he played 145 snaps on special teams.
In contrast, Stephen Curry was raised in a basketball-loving household because his father, Dell Curry, played in the NBA. Despite being a standout player at Charlotte Christian School in North Carolina, he was passed over by major universities because of his stature and perceived lack of athleticism. From 2006 until 2009, Stephen played for Davidson College. During the 2008 NCAA Tournament, he became a nationally recognized scorer and led his team to the Elite Eight.

In the 2009 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors selected him seventh overall. Curry’s remarkable shooting skills, especially from three-point range, transformed the game. Along with Klay Thompson, he formed a formidable backcourt that earned them the moniker “Splash Brothers.”
Now Steph Curry, the ‘Golden Boy,’ and Caden Curry, ‘Digs’—two names you might hear a lot in the coming years. They’re not related, but both of these guys are destined for greatness. Let’s see how these two young stars perform as they enter the next chapter of their careers
