Byrum Brown is a versatile athlete who started with budding track and basketball. Eventually, he gravitated towards football when he was just six years old, and “the rest is history,” says his father, Drew Brown. Byrum has been a quarterback for the South Florida Bulls for two years. He made an early impact with his performance, and as the 2023 season started, he was named their starting quarterback. In his second week with the team, he completed 20 out of 34 passes for 197 yards and scored three crucial touchdowns, and his contribution helped South Florida break an eleven-game losing streak with a win against Florida A&M.
He holds a record of throwing the most touchdowns as a quarterback in USF program history in the first eight starts. However, it didn’t start at USF. Brown developed his skills at Rolesville High School. The numbers are beyond impressive. 464 completions of 758 passes for 8,122 yards, 87 touchdowns. Brown’s powers weren’t limited to throwing. His rushing stats? 2,074 yards and 26 touchdowns. He was a popular face at Rolesville and was named the “homecoming king.” Brown was honored with the school legecay award, which is usually given to teachers or community members. Let’s introduce you to the two most important people behind his success: his parents, Drew and Nicole Brown.

Byrum Brown was born in a household in Raleigh, North Carolina. His dad, Drew, is the community outreach manager for Wake Forest. Whereas, his mother, Nicole, is an OSHA eastern compliance officer for the North Carolina Department of Labor. She is responsible for Brown’s nature and his loving personality. When Brown was growing up, she taught him the importance of respect for others, humility, and hard work. Although the player is just 19 years old, but he has all the great qualities a grown man aspires to.
Drew and Nicole Brown started dating when the former was a restaurant manager. Nicole found him very cute; she did not waste time and introduced Drew to her mom the very next day. They have another kid in Davis who is a tight end at Rolesville. The couple nurtures their children’s passions and supports their athletic pursuits. Moreover, individual commitments of Byrum and Davis to the family have helped them create a strong bond with Byrum and his brother.

He’s one of the kindest human beings I have known. If I tried to say I’ve done everything to put Byrum in position for where he is now, I’d be lying. I’ve just been here for Byrum, taken him where he needs to go, and impressed upon him our values. But I think the way he is, it’s God-given.” Drew has always helped Byrum, not only in his football career but in his academics as well. His comments highlight how much he adores Brown.
Giving back to the community

Drew and his wife instilled strong values in their sons, which are reflected in their behavior and attitude of giving back to society. Former USF and NFL QB BJ Daniels served as the camp’s director for the Brown family last summer.
Last year after the camp, ABC Action News had a conversation with Byrum Brown’s dad, “I look at all these kids, and I think ‘That was me bringing him out here. And that’s remarkable.” He added, “Anything’s possible, but you gotta work for it. It was his dream. He wanted to do it. So that’s why we’re here.” Brown’s commitment to his growing football career and his community is clearly evident in everything he does. His parents are his biggest supporters, and they have helped him shape into a role model for other young athletes.
