“I grew up a Michigan fan and my family grew up with Michigan, my dad especially. Seeing them in the stands, it will be great,” said Michigan’s safety, Makari Paige, expressing the reason for committing to the Wolverines. Moreover, the star athlete mentioned that he had a deep connection with Michigan coaches, especially Don Brown, Chris Partridge, and other recruiting fellows as well as players. The most intriguing fact that attracted the dynamic and versatile athlete to Michigan is their education, which is considered the top-class education in the world.
However, the resemblance of Michigan’s defense position to West Bloomfield caught the attention of Paige and he enrolled his name as a safety. Makari attended West Bloomfield High School and started playing football under Ron Bellamy, future Michigan assistant coach. Bellamy never forced Paige to choose Michigan over other offers such as Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, or Purdue, as he believed his star safety had the potential to make his own decision although Bellamy considered Michigan as a special place for pursuing a football career.

However, in his junior year, Paige recorded 198 tackles in total. Most importantly, the young athlete earned a title like All-State Detroit Free Press: Dream Team. Along with that, he became a top-rated safety with four stars according to 247Sports. In July 2019, he joined Michigan and groomed himself under best coaching. On this note, the defensive backs coach and co-coordinator, Steve Clinkscale, said “You saw him grow a lot this spring. He’s carried it over into the summer, and he’s done a good job right now in the fall.” However, the CFP national champion showcased his caliber in several games to achieve early success. Starting from hometown to come into the position of top-rated safety was quite difficult for the defensive back. His never-give-up attitude and team spirit ability helped him to move forward. He won three consecutive Big Ten Conference titles, along with a national championship title.
The young player has to go more miles, and that is why he is focusing on the preparation for the upcoming championship. It is expected that he will contribute in the upcoming season to become Wolverines, one of the contenders in the playoffs.
