Is Jalen Milroe the next big thing for Alabama football, or just another hype?

Jalen Milroe, the upcoming college-level football player, has had some eye-catching displays of his talent from high school. He started at Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas and immediately emerged as one of the school’s leading quarterbacks. Often regarded as a strong dual-threat, Milroe was not only a sportsman but also displayed personal management skills both in the playing arena and at the organizational level. At Tompkins, he was able to build the foundation that would in time culminate in a shining college football career.

Playing for Tompkins, Milroe showed flashes of his dual-threat playing style, attracting college scouts nationwide. In his senior year, he was unstoppable leading Tompkins through a regular season without a defeat. One of his most memorable games was a victory over Katy High School, where he ended their 75-game district winning streak. This win also allowed him to exercise under pressure, which he can use at the college level.

Milroe first committed to Texas during his freshman year of high school, but later in the process backtracked and joined Alabama as a part of the 2021 recruiting class. Milroe joined Alabama in January 2021 and prepared for both class and sports. With his height of 6-foot-2 and his weight of 220 pounds, Milroe took his physicality and mental side to Tuscaloosa. Tyler Booker believes Jalen Milroe will get better under Kalen DeBoer. “I feel like it will allow Jalen to be himself, especially the way I’ve seen coach DeBoer and Jaylen interact,” Booker said. “He wants to do what Jalen can do well, build on that, and the other playmakers on offense as well.”

It may sound cliché, but as Milroe’s story at Alabama continues to unfold, high school is still an important life-building stage for him. Speaking of his time at Tompkins, his coach Todd McVey said that Milroe resembled NFL MVPs Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, particularly because of how Milroe makes defenders miss in the pocket while keeping his eyes in the opposite end zone.

Altogether, the way Jalen Milroe moved from Tompkins High School to the University of Alabama we can observe a hard-working student who wants only the best for himself. He graduated from the university in December 2023, earning a degree in business administration and a minor in entrepreneurship. As he continues to grow both academically and athletically, Milroe remains focused on becoming the best quarterback he can be, not just for himself, but for the entire Crimson Tide program. Having the background of a high school player and the backup of his coaches and other players, Milroe will put his mark at the University of Alabama.
