Speculation about the potential of constructing a new stadium for Gamecocks for the football club started in the early 1930s. Although by the 1934 season, the new stadium had been constructed using federal funds for South Carolina. Situated next to the renowned Carolina State, this football stadium is regarded as the 16th largest on-campus college football stadium in the NCAA. Well, the stadium could accommodate 17,600 spectators when it initially opened. Afterward, Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina had 77,559 official seats available. That being said, on game days, it can hold a little over 80,000 spectators. However, over the course of the last decade, it has undergone about $30 million in repairs and restorations, raising its official capacity to 80,250. Along with that, it offers several seating choices, like club seating, VIP seating, suites, and more. The stadium offers its patrons more than just seating. The Williams–Brice Stadium was renamed in Mrs. Martha Williams-Brice’s honor since the $2.5 million donation from her estate allowed for improvements to be made to South Carolina’s home turf. Before that, the stadium was also known as “the Cockpit” or “Carolina Stadium,“ where the Gamecocks first played in 1934, against Erksine.
