Home/College Football

You will undoubtedly hear about the Autzen Stadium after the Ducks defeated Idaho 24-14 on August 31 in their season opener. Ducks’ home turf is in Eugene, Oregon, in the northwest region of the United States. Basically, it represents Oregon’s unwavering commitment to collegiate football. However, many would be curious to know when the player started playing at that stadium.

Since its inception in 1967, the arena has experienced multiple expansions. On September 23, 1967, Autzen hosted its inaugural matchup with the University of Colorado. Before 1967, the Ducks used Hayward Field as their on-campus stadium. But when Hayward Field could no longer serve the team’s requirements, the search for a new football stadium was spearheaded by Leo Harris, which made today’s iconic home stadium for Oregon. At that time, Harris was the athletic director of Oregon. You might be wondering now why it is called Autzen.

Well, the stadium honors Portland lumberman, athlete, and philanthropist Thomas J. Autzen and is built on a 90-acre plot of land. The most intriguing fact is that the $2.225 million stadium saw a $90 million renovation endeavor. That renovation decorated the stadium with 32 skyboxes, a three-story luxury suite, a new press box, and the installation of 12,000 seats. Now, the question remains, what is the current seating capacity of Autzen?

This ranking doesn’t deter the crowd of admirers due to Autzen’s captivating atmosphere. Let’s take a glimpse of it.
