Does Canvas Stadium's 41,000 seating capacity make it the best venue for college football in Colorado?

As the college football season enters a crucial stage in Week 3, the rivals are gearing up for a clash on the field. Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes will face off against Jay Norvell’s Colorado State Rams on Saturday night in the Canvas Stadium. Discover all there is to know about the Colorado Rams’ home ground!

Canvas Stadium is going to be the official battlefield for the Buffs and the Rams. Colorado Rams Canvas Stadium is an outdoor, extravagant college football stadium located on the campus of Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado. The attractive home field of the CSU Rams was opened on August 5, 2017. Apart from its elegant interior, the stadium has a seating capacity of 36,500 people but can accommodate more than 41,000 people. The journey from an outdoor field to a home field stadium was not easy. The Canvas Stadium field was designed following a conventional north-south orientation and positioned at 5,003 feet above sea level. This is perfect for football players as it reduces the impact of sunlight on players while playing.

The Canvas Stadium is massive in terms of occupancy, but this was not the case from the start. Colorado University, In 2013, started raising funds for building a more than 40,000-seat on-campus facility to replace the former Hughes Stadium. However, there was a major setback in terms of funding from CSU students, resulting in getting more out-of-state students by increasing the fees. In that way, the university somehow managed to get some funds.

The on-campus multi-purpose stadium, with a capacity of 41,000, was built under a hefty amount of $220 million. Although it was a significant sum, the expense was worthwhile. After a lengthy process that included changes, protests, community engagement, and an agreement with Fort Collins, Colorado University, finally constructed a stunning home field for the team. With both teams set to compete on their home ground, let’s see who will emerge as the ultimate champion!

Colorado Buffs vs. Colorado State Rams current position

Well, this game is going to be interesting, as it’s a very crucial game for both teams. Both the Colorado Buffs and Colorado State have a 1-1 record. After a high-margin loss of 28-10 to Nebraska in Week 2, the Buffs are eager to make a comeback. Buffs star quarterback Shedeur Sanders was struggling throughout the game, resulting in five sacks. Sanders was only able to get 23 out of 38 passes running for 244 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Even the team’s defence is weak, with safety Shilo Sanders exiting due to a forearm injury.

However, the Colorado State Rams are coming off a big 38-17 win over the Northern Colorado Bears, where quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi got 18 out of 27 attempts throwing for 202 yards with one touchdown. Nevertheless, the chances of them winning against the Buffs are predicted to be low. According to ESPN’s Matchup Predictor, the Colorado Buffaloes are favored with an 80.8% chance of beating the Colorado State Rams in Week 3.
