UNLV has one of the most expensive stadiums in the world, second only to SoFi Stadium, perhaps. When it was completed in 2020, Las Vegas’ new home turf came with a jaw-dropping price tag of $2 billion. Do you know which stadium we’re talking about? That’s right, Allegiant Stadium, is one of the NFL’s relatively newest venues. Its name comes from the Allegiant Travel Company, which reportedly pays over $20 million per year for the naming rights—a deal that lasts for 30 years.
Now, you might be wondering about its seating capacity in such a billion-dollar venue. Well, Allegiant Stadium can hold up to 70,000 people, but its usual maximum capacity is set at 65,000. Fans also have a variety of seating options to choose from, including premium lounge boxes, club suites, and other luxury suites.
The stadium is fully enclosed and features state-of-the-art air conditioning and climate control, perfect for the hot Vegas weather. Well, the construction of the stadium started in November 2017, and by July 2020, it was labeled “substantially completed.”

But there’s more to Allegiant Stadium than just its impressive price tag. It also boasts some incredible features. For instance, the stadium was designed with two playing fields, which is one of the reasons it was so expensive. The first field is made of artificial turf and is used for UNLV’s college games. The second field is a massive tray of real grass that can be rolled in and out on hundreds of electronic wheels. Pretty cool, right?
The roof of Allegiant Stadium is another standout feature. It’s completely transparent, allowing natural light to flood the interior. Plus, it has retractable, curtain-like side windows. On special occasions, these windows can be opened to give the feel of an indoor-outdoor stadium. While these high-tech features are amazing, for most fans, seating capacity is what truly matters, especially on game days when the stadium is packed and the energy is electric.

Allegiant Stadium is no stranger to hosting big events. It’s been home to Super Bowl LVIII, the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024, the Vegas Kickoff Classic, and of course, UNLV Rebels college football games. Other notable events include the Shamrock Series, the Las Vegas Bowl, the East-West Shrine Bowl, and the Pac-12 Football Championship Game. The largest crowd in the stadium’s history occurred on September 1, 2024, when 63,969 fans attended the Vegas Kickoff Classic match between USC and LSU. This broke the previous record of 61,629 set during Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024.
