Even though we all see all these coaches belly-scratching and cursing the football gods, including the officials. When they go home with a massive bag, all the stress is worth it. These College football shouters typically earn millions each season. Most coaches make somewhere between $600,000 to $5 million a year. When you compare their salary to the average U.S. salary, it’s almost absurd. The average salary in the U.S. is $63,795 as per the latest data from the Social Security Administration (SSA). Imagine The South Carolina HC Shane Beamer, aka the Aggies heartbreaker, would earn.
Who’s at the top of the list, though?
The best programs in the country compensate their coaches with salaries in the millions. Dabo Swinney, Kirby Smart, Kalen DeBoer, Lincoln Riley, and Steve Sarkisian make just over $10 million per season. Yet very few coaches in the NCAA make less than a million in salary. The man, the myth, the legend Shane Beamer, who’s currently beaming in Columbia, used to make $2.75 million under the deal he signed two seasons ago. Now after almost doubling his salary with his new contract signed last year, worth more than $33 million over the next five years. It boosts Beamer’s salary next season to $6.4 million annually.

It makes sense for the 45-year-old who took over a two-win team in 2020 and had consecutive winning seasons, finishing his debut year in 2021 with the program’s first bowl victory. The Gamecocks prime received a two-year extension that carries him through 2027. He’ll get a raise of $250,000 each year of the agreement. But the school trustee isn’t giving free meals. As per his buyout agreement, Beamer will owe South Carolina $5 million if he leaves in the next year. The deal reduces that amount by $1 million each subsequent year he remains coach.

There’s more. Beamer can earn bonuses of up to $150,000 for Non-College Football Playoff bowl games. And receive $1.25 million to win the national title. All these commas make him the highest-paid coach in the school’s history. He gotta thank the administration for this trust, and he did. “I’m very proud of what we’ve done the last two seasons, but it’s just the beginning.” But does he stands amongst his colleagues in the league?
Where does the South Carolina HC Shane Beamer rank?
As far as Shane Beamer’s South Carolina is concerned they are 5-3 in the SEC, ranked 33as per Power Index. After Saturday’s 44-20 movie night, the Gamecocks thoroughly dominated the top ten Texas A&M team. Their head coach isn’t at the top of the list. While $6.4 million is a good amount, unfortunately, it’s on the lower end compared to some big-shot coaches. As they make over $6,00,000, even a few with a losing season.

As per some sources, Shane Beamer, with his lottery, still sits eighth last in the list of top 40 amongst the leagues’ top grossers. The elite tier coaches like Steve Sarkisian (Texas), Kirby Smart (Georgia), and Dabo Swinney (Clemson) are the ones hitting more than $10,00,000 bucks. Apart from a few well-known coaches, most earn a base salary that typically doesn’t exceed $500,000 per year. It’s the bonuses and additional perks that elevate those paychecks to astronomical heights.
But that should be seen in context. What’s the context? He’s earning almost six times what he earned at his previous job as the Bulldogs TE assistant coach. And who’s to blame, especially after defeating a playoff contender, the Gamecocks are asking who want’s it next?
