Deion Sanders, the ultimate game changer of the Colorado Buffs, gets his prize. From dealing with the constant NFL jump rumors following his sons’ departure, to sealing a new contract, Coach Prime led the way. Sanders came and took up a doormat program and shaped it with his own brilliance. He went 4-8 in his first season but drew a lot of eyeballs to the program since his hiring.

Thanks to his magnetic presence and the top-tier recruiting strategy, he brought with him a unique approach to building a championship roster. Now, it’s time for a reward. A new contract extension knocks on the door.

What are the details of Deion Sanders’ latest contract with Colorado?

The new contract guarantees him a whopping $10 million this year, and next year before increasing to $11 million in 2027 and $12 million in the third and final year of the deal in 2029. With this, he became the highest-paid coach in the Big 12. Just a few weeks back, the internet was blazing with the rumor of Sanders going to jump ship to the Dallas Cowboys following the dismissal of Mike McCarthy. Some reports suggested Johnson met the franchise and showcased mutual interest. But before it could get any deeper, Colorado higher-ups dished out a $54 million safety net. It’s not always the money that keeps a coach hooked in a house. But let’s be honest, money can control a lot of decisions that could go sour, eventually, without it.

Alabama AD explained the move with a voice filled with love, light, and a lot more silver lining, down the stretch.  “Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and in doing so, has restored CU football to our rightful place as a national power,” said George. “This extension not only recognizes Coach’s incredible accomplishments transforming our program on and off the field, it keeps him in Boulder to compete for conference and national championships in the years to come.”

How does the new contract compare to Sanders’ original deal?

Sanders signed a five-year deal worth up to $29.5 million in salary alone when he joined the Buffaloes from the Jackson State Tigers. For the 2024 college football season, he signed a deal worth $5.7 million, a sharp increase of $200,000 from his first season.

Is Deion Sanders' $54 million contract enough to keep him from the NFL's tempting offers?

Have an interesting take?

Sanders, as a gratitude note, extends a promise to continue to keep up the good work and make the program stronger and more competitive in the tumultuous era of NIL domination. When he says the growth and good work, it doesn’t necessarily confine to the gridiron. ”It’s not just about football; it’s about developing young men who are ready to take on the world. I’m committed to bringing greatness to this university, on and off the field.” the visionary head coach said right after getting after a sharp hike in the paycheck.

He is clearly living up to the promise. Most recently, Sanders set an example by attempting to collaborate for the traditional Spring game at Colorado. He doesn’t believe only the scrimmage will do justice to a deeming trend in the college football. He wants to add a spark to the mundane, sending an open invitation to the teams. As Syracuse gave a nod, both teams await an NCAA green light to proceed further.

Well, keeping aside all the benefits, his new contract offers, the one that kind of dismisses the Buffs’ insecurity over his loyalty for at least up to 2029 at Boulder is a lofty buyout math.

What are the buyout terms in Deion Sanders’ new contract?

Sanders openly flirted with the Cowboys’ option. But since he has penned the new deal, he can’t get away with accepting another lucrative job without owing the team a lump sum amount of money.

The all-important buyout figure looks like: $12 million before December 31, 2025; $10 million before December 31, 2026; $6 million before December 31, 2027; $4 million before December 31, 2028; and $3 million before December 31, 2029.

However, even if Sanders wasn’t tied to a money map, it’s safe to say he would be equally devoted to making the team a contender, who believes the work has just started. He has to walk many more miles to cap it off. He said he wouldn’t want anywhere else but here in Colorado, ending the statement with a signature Coach Prime humor: ”anybody got at least a five-bedroom home with acreage for sale?
