Billy Napier is miserably failing from head to toe in maintaining even a two-game winning streak at the Florida Gators. And their last game against Georgia was proof of it. Although a 20-34 loss to the Bulldogs was not that bad because it was Napier’s third meeting with their archrivals since he joined in 2021, and facing an SEC king is not a cakewalk! But it takes a lot of guts to say, “I do think the game went the way we wanted it,” Napier’s words after they lost to Georgia. If that’s the case, why can’t we see the results, man? Even his die-hard fans started saying he’s not doing his job for the kind of bucks he’s getting from the Gators!
Do you guys have any idea how much Napier is making out of his coaching job at the Gators? Any wild guesses? Well, Florida signed a seven-year contract with Napier after he replaced Mullen in 2021, which costs around a whopping $51.8 million! That’s just crazy! His annual salary is $7,370,000. Even after losing seven games last season, Napier was paid $7.1 million.

On top of that, you won’t believe it if we say the 45-year-old Napier is the 10th highest-paid head coach in the SEC. Even after delivering an okayish 14-17 overall and 7-12 in the SEC for the three seasons he has coached, he is ranked behind the following coaches who are getting paid the highest in college football.

The topmost-paid coach is Georgia’s head coach, Kirby Smart, with $13,282,580, followed by Steve Sarkisian at Texas, with a $10,600.00 salary. The following highest-paid coaches after them are Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, LSU’s Brian Kelly, Kentucky HC Mark Stoops, Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss, Eli Drinkwitz at Missouri, Josh Heupel at Tennessee, and Brent Venables, the Oklahoma HC holds the 9th most paid coach spot in college football right before Billy Napier. Unfortunately, Napier has not lived up to the hype Florida expected from him, and as per the current buzz in the football world, Napier is likely to be replaced the next season.
Who’s going to replace Billy Napier as the new head coach of the Florida Gators?
Yeah, you heard that right! According to many sources, the current Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin, is the first target of the Gators officials if they fire Napier. After facing one after another painful loss to Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and now Georgia as well, Gators officials are not going to entertain Napier’s pathetic coaching as the main reason behind their fall.

To appoint Kiffin is the most sensible decision gators will take. Look at the progress Kiffin has made to the Rebels. He joined it back in 2020, and as of now, he holds an overall 37-15 record for the 4 seasons he has coached. Under Kiffin’s guidance, Ole Miss holds a thin chance to be in the playoffs as well.

But to fire Napier without cause will be a tough call to make for the Gators. They’ll need to pay him $28.3 million as a part of his remaining contract. Meanwhile, Napier’s original contract will end on January 31, 2029, and if the Gators breach the contract following the 2024 season, they’ll have to pay him 85% of his remaining contract. However, if Napier turns the table upside down in the next few games, he still holds a chance to save his coaching job!
