Is Wake Forest's Allegacy Stadium a hidden gem or just too small for big-time college football?

One of the tiniest football stadiums in Division I FBS! Unable to identify? Alright, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons’ home field is Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium. The Demon Deacons played at Bowman Gray Stadium prior to this one. However, the initial designs for a new football stadium were created for Wake Forest University when the team moved to Winston-Salem in the late 1940s. Then, by the mid-1960s, Wake Forest had achieved that objective. You could now wonder how it looks.

Allegacy Stadium, the largest structure in the complex that also includes David F. Couch Ballpark and an indoor tennis center, is located between Reynolds and Deacon Boulevards, one mile from campus. The inaugural game of the stadium was played on September 14, 1968, between Wake Forest and NC State. The stadium now has 31,500 seats, with thousands more beyond the end zones. This is the only stadium with a permanent seat. However, it has undergone major alterations and multiple name changes in the last sixty years. Now, the questions still stand about how much the renovations cost and what the place’s prior name was.

Constructed at an approximate cost of $4 million, the stadium was completed ahead of the 1968 football season. Subsequently, it underwent multiple restorations culminating in the current state-of-the-art, which comes at an approximate cost of $35 million. Let’s get to its name now. Groves Stadium was known by its original name until 2007, when a naming rights arrangement was entered into by the University and the Winston-Salem BB&T bank. Following the completion of their merger in 2019, BB&T and Suntrust decided to go by the new moniker Truist Field for the combined companies. On June 21, 2023, Wake Forest Athletics renamed the venue Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in recognition of Allegacy’s formal banking affiliation.

The stadium provides its supporters with iconic elements in addition to name and view. Let’s take a look at the magnificent amenities of Allegacy Stadium.
