If you thought Trojans WR Makai Lemon getting injured during a rush would be the only setback Lincoln Riley would have to deal with, then you are dead wrong. Sherrone Moore is doing something that no Wolverines fan had thought would be possible. The team that once sat on the golden throne of CFB became a shell of their former self. However, it looks like Sherrone Moore has taken a page directly out of Texas’s book. The pressure the team has created on the Trojans is something amazing to look at.
However, everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Nick Hamilton took to X on September 22nd to note; “Hill knocked Lake McRee on the ground on that hit.” During a rush, Lake McRee was tackled directly by Jyaire Hill. From what we saw, it looked like McRee’s knees took the brunt of the force. The injury update informed that it was a left knee injury and McRee has thrown in the towel. This is a major disadvantage for Riley and the Trojans.

It feels like Moore has taken a page out of Texas’s book. With all the pressure the Wolverines have created on both lines of the scrimmage, it feels like the Trojans might have to call this one off. With McRee and Makai Lemon both out, the Trojans are going to have a hard time recovering. However, Riley still has access to Miller Moss and his talents. Going into the 3rd quarter, Moss managed to lock in 1 touchdown, bringing the score to 10-14.
While the Wolverines’ offense might one up Trojans’ offense, Riley’s current defensive line has been the knight in shining armor for the team. We saw how dominating the defensive line was when the Trojans went up against the Utah State and now we are seeing the same in the 3rd quarter. However, nothing is set in stone and the Wolverines have locked in another touchdown with the score standing at 20-10.
Riley is going to have to squeeze out every drop of potential he can from his team because, at this point, it feels like they are dealing with the 2023 Michigan Wolverines. Winning against that monster won’t be easy. However, the multiple injuries do bring out one important point regarding the refs and the penalties.

Some fans were quick to point out on X that refs were missing out on calls for the Wolverines. Into the 2nd quarter, 5 calls were missed and even the Makai Lemon injury was not called out as a penalty for the Wolverines. From what we saw, Lemon took a cheap shot from Jyaire Hill.

Even for the McRee injury, no penalty was brought in for the Wolverines. Riley woke up on the wrong side of the bed. However, there might still be some chance of winning this. 3rd quarter in and the Trojans have managed to secure a touchdown. This brings the score to 17-20, so there’s still a chance for Riley to steal away Moore’s crown. We just gotta wait and watch.
