Moving CU's season opener for Deion Sanders—Genius marketing or just a cash grab?

Then it’s proven that the Colorado Buffaloes are definitely everybody’s Super Bowl.” The 2023 season was a wreak-fest cause Coach Prime was way too confident regarding Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders’ capabilities. In fact, Paul Finebaum even said, “They are irrelevant in the big picture of college football.” However, the 2024 season is the year of getting back at the haters, as Deion Sanders preps up the boys with a solid new O-line and much more focus on the defense and offense. The fall camp also went great, with no player suffering any injuries as well. Another major news that we got back in April is that the CU opener was being pulled to 29th August instead of the 31st initial plan. If they are “irrelevant” then why do they want Prime Time this bad?

“We Need That Deion Money” Colin Moore, CEO of Life and Football said on August 18th on the TRIALS to TRIUMPH show. Finebaum can now take a knee. It wasn’t a joke when Andy Staples back on On3 mentioned that everyone has their eyes on Deion Sanders and the Buffs. Taking a team from a tragic 1-11 record to 4-8 along with bringing in a solid QB (Shedeur Sanders) and probably the best player in college football (Travis Hunter) is nothing but a massive feat. The entire program currently is worth millions. While it is true that they couldn’t satisfy the hype they generated last year, however, you cannot deny that a 400% increase in performance is unreal. Also, you cannot ignore the drastic increase in ticket sales for Colorado. We saw an average increase of 40% across the board for Buff games last season. Even this year, they managed to sell off all season tickets. Back on July 16th, Robert Griffin put it perfectly. “One thing is for sure though. Coach Prime is building something at Colorado,” Griffin had said. Coach Prime has brought in Pat Shurmur to help the boys out with their defenses. The team also has Jordan Seaton on board who’s gonna take up the task to protect Shedeur.

Not only that, we also got Will Sheppard, who will be the X-receiver and will help out with the passes. That kid already has clocked in amazing speed and would be a perfect fit for Shedeur’s accuracy. We even got the news that the fall camp brought in amazing results. During one of the practice sessions, Shedeur Sanders managed to land a 55-yard pass to Jimmy Horn Jr. For any player, this wasn’t an easy ball to catch. To be able to track the ball from behind is an amazing feat and you gotta give props to Horn for catching it. “You know when him winning, he gonna be what what,” Moore notes. If the Buffs manage to make it a solid run this year, money is gonna fall out of the sky cause we all know Deion Sanders. He’s gonna market it all like a champ. But most importantly, this is gonna give Shedeur and Travis the push they need to land the top draft picks.

We all know that Hunter and Shedeur, along with Shilo, are gonna leave for the NFL next year. If the Buffs make it big this season, it’s gonna make the draft picks so much easier for the boys. Jordan Reid from ESPN had noted way back that Shedeur is already on the watchlist of many NFL analysts. Some already consider him the best. However, he has to prove himself this year if he wants the No.1 spot on the draft.

Have an interesting take?

If we move to Travis, he has already proven his skill multiple times. Daniel Jeremiah already noted on his scouting report of Hunter that, “He has every tool needed to develop into a No. 1 wideout.” Hunter is a force to reckon with when he has the ball in his hands. And if he ain’t exhausted by the end of the game, he is gonna put in some solid work on the defense as well. Finally, for Shilo Sanders, while the kid is yet to make big moves, he already has a 77% offense rating. We gonna see what he can accomplish this season before he heads off.
