Now that the Colorado Buffs are preparing to face their next opponent, the Cincinnati Bearcats, this Saturday, the last thing head coach Deion Sanders expected was to have their team strategy revealed. What made it even more surprising was the fact that it came from a former team player. Quite shocking, isn’t it?
Today analyst Carl Reed Jr. took to his Instagram account to share Buffs’ former star quarterback Kordell Stewart’s opinion on team gameplay, but somehow talking about their performance Kordell disclosed their hidden strategy which can be an added advantage for the Bearcats.
Kordell said, “you see them now in their second year here, playing so much better because they’ve gotten literally their feet wet in the sense of how the game is played on this level of football.” He then added, “It’s because they’re coming from the HBCU community, knowing that the talent is mostly on the outside with the skilled position players as opposed to in the trenches. We got that sewed up this year. And now we’re in the trenches, you’ve seen how we’re playing. They’re playing that balanced style football, which is what we did way back in the day which we were alluding to.”

According to Kordell Stewart, Coach Prime has done an outstanding job, and it’s clear from seeing key players like Travis, Shilo, and Shedeur follow him from Jackson State. HBCU athletes are often linked to skill positions like receivers or running backs, rather than more physical roles in the trenches. But Sanders has flipped the script by bringing in top-tier talent for those positions, proving that HBCU players aren’t limited to specific roles. These athletes have delivered on the field, silencing doubters and showing the impact of Sanders’ leadership.
“Now that you see these kids get an opportunity, from the cams to the Shilo’s to the Shedeurs, is when you start traversing, when you start seeing those guys out here, Brown as well, on the offensive line that came from where he came from in Jackson State,” Kordell added, praising the Sanders ‘balanced’ crew in Boulder. Well, nothing is far from the truth—not only are these players showcasing remarkable gameplay but also gaining mass recognition.
