There are no Huskers without Greg Sharpe. While Nebraska continues its fight to become the next big thing in CFB, the voice of the program is fighting his own battles. Matt Rhule and Co. are all set to take on the Scarlet Knights in what seems like the ultimate test. With the fans already in doubt after the recent loss to Illinois, this second devastating blow is going to sting much worse.
On October 5th, just hours before the Huskers vs Rutgers game, Big Noon Kickoff took to X to share what Greg Sharpe had to say about his entire journey after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. “Probably less than 50% of people who have pancreatic cancer don’t survive more than 3 months. I’m on borrowed time,” Sharpe noted. In early 2024, Sharpe was diagnosed with cancer after he visited the hospital regarding the pain in his shoulder.
“When I’m around the stadium, I just feel better. I’m not gonna sit around and pout, that’s not a great way to end life.”

This man has given a decade and a half of his life to Nebraska sports. From baseball to football, the voice of Greg Sharpe had become synonymous with the game. April 15th was when Sharpe first broke the news regarding the cancer diagnosis to his fans and the entirety of the Huskers fan base.
The Huskers baseball team even decided to honor Sharpe by wearing a patch with the tag “Sharpe Strong”. When Rhule had his boys, take the hit against Illini, Sharpe wasn’t there in the booth. It kind of felt like the man’s absence took away the good luck from Rhule and Co.
