2025 isn’t shaping up to be the Trojans’ year. With a 5-5 record and defensive woes, Lincoln Riley’s team has a long way to go to turn things around. They’re struggling to find their rhythm, and now misery has knocked on their door once again. Just when it seemed like things were looking up, after their Nebraska victory, their top quarterback prospect, Julian Lewis, pulled the plug on his commitment. Quite a bummer! However, it looks like the Trojans’ HC saw it coming, as he already had a Plan B ready.
On Sunday, Carrollton’s five-star recruit Julian Lewis parted ways with the USC program. This not only shattered Lincoln Riley’s hopes of reshaping the team’s offense but also left them with an empty spot to fill. But if only Riley had let it stay empty for longer! Today recruiting analyst Hayes Fawcett took to Instagram to share an update regarding Riley’s recent move to save USC’s future after Julian Lewis’ sudden exit from the team, saying, “BREAKING: Five-Star QB Husan Longstreet has flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to USC; he tells me for @on3recruits.”

Well, getting Husan Longstreet is one of the smartest decisions of Lincoln Riley, as Centennial’s star quarterback can be a perfect replacement for Lewis. The dude’s got a rocket arm, especially out West, and has an incredible track record of completing 199 of 298 pass attempts for 3013 yards with 24 touchdowns. This can be an added advantage for the Trojans’ future games.

However, it was more than expected in the case of Julian Lewis that he might change his mind and soon make a switch from the Trojans, as even after committing to them, JuJu always kept his options open. He recently visited Georgia’s game and was also interested in Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffs, as he visited their game against the Bearcats. Now the big question is which team Lewis will ultimately land on.
Julian Lewis’ next move
Losing a player like Julian Lewis is quite a challenge. The young quarterback was a finalist running for Gatorade National Player of the Year as a sophomore last season because of his exceptional track record of throwing for 3094 yards with 48 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Now you can understand why keeping Lewis on the team was important for the USC Trojans. But then looking at this season’s gameplay, it was a tough nut to crack. Moreover, when you are fighting with some top-ranked teams that also have a decent standing in the playoff projection, like Colorado and Georgia, it’s hard to make a win.

Julian Lewis’s decision to reclassify from 2026 to 2025 has thrown a major curveball into the college football recruiting world. Initially, his de-commitment from USC seemed like a win for other programs, especially Buffs, but with Georgia entering the picture, the competition has heated up. Both the Georgia Bulldogs and Colorado Buffs are enjoying a successful eight-win season, and with their star quarterbacks, Carson Beck and Shedeur Sanders, likely heading to the NFL, Lewis could step into a significant role right away. So, will Lewis choose the tradition and prestige of Georgia or the exciting new era under Coach Prime at Colorado?
