Is Coach Prime the secret weapon behind young athletes' career-defining decisions in college football?

Defensive lineman Floyd Boucard has officially committed to the USC Trojans after decommitting from Oklahoma last month. The 6-foot-3-inch player initially committed to the Sooners in July. However, he decided not to join them and instead sat on reopening of his recruitment via social media on September 16. But in a recent development, he has let his fans in on some background information regarding his USC decision.

Boucard grew up in Montreal; he is a versatile athlete who initially played hockey. He later moved to the United States and began playing football during his freshman year of high school. He made a name for himself very quickly in the world of college football, and now he is one of the most sought-after players in the 2025 recruiting class. He also revealed that Deion Sander’s prime target Julian Lewis has majorly influenced his career decision. “He Julian Lewis was like, I really wish you came down here,” Bouchard added. “He seems like a good leader… I am looking forward to being his teammate.”

Previously though, Sports Illustrated reported Boucard’s statement where he expressed gratitude towards Oklahoma. “I would like to thank the University of Oklahoma for welcoming me with open arms.” Boucard took to social media to make his decision and wrote, “It’s after much consideration, thought, and conversations with my family that I’ve made the decision to DECOMMIT, and I am now reopening my recruitment to all schools.”

Now, Boucard is rated as the No. 17 defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class by Rivals. During his junior season of high school, he displayed some impressive performance and recorded 85 tackles, including 27 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. But will he keep this up once he reaches USC? Only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s have a look at how the Trojans are holding up this season.

Lincoln Riley’s tactical adjustments helped the Trojans win

Lincoln Riley’s team has bounced back after losing to Michigan by 27-24 in the third week. Last Saturday, his team registered their third victory again where they faced Wisconsin and won by 38-21. However, a lot happened in their narrow victory. The Coliseum crowd expressed their frustration by booing Southern California off the field at halftime. The Trojans committed three turnovers, struggled defensively against Wisconsin, and generally, appeared unprepared for the Big Ten competition.

Despite a bad start, Riley’s team, who are known for their ability to make effective halftime adjustments, bounced back and secured the victory. The head coach’s starter, Miller Moss, stepped up again and displayed some significant performance.

The Quarterback threw two of his three touchdown passes to Ja’Kobi Lane, leading No. 13 USC to a remarkable comeback from an 11-point halftime deficit, ultimately winning 38-21 in their first Big Ten home game. Riley made some important remarks following their narrow victory and highlighted that his squad needs to win games. “We knew we could compete in this conference, but now you’ve got to win, and you’ve got to play well.”

He added, “After the way that last week finished… and have the first half go the way it did, (but) come back and play that well, it just says a lot about the character of the guys in this room. They’re going to battle. They’re not going anywhere. We don’t panic.”

Wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane set career highs with 10 receptions for 105 yards, while Duce Robinson scored the go-ahead touchdown for the Trojans with 1:28 remaining in the third quarter, thanks to another precise throw from quarterback Miller Moss, who finished the game with 308 passing yards.

Moss was briefly evaluated for a concussion after he fell awkwardly while rushing for a 7-yard touchdown on a fourth-down keeper with 8:22 left in the game, but he continued to play. With 5:04 remaining, USC linebacker Mason Cobb sealed the victory by returning an interception 55 yards for a touchdown. This weekend, the USC Trojans will play against Minnesota and try to maintain their momentum. Let’s see if they can keep calm and display some strong gameplay or if Minnesota will overpower them.
