When sports chimed into politics, it was bound to make headlines. Ahead of the high-stakes Ohio State-Notre Dame national championships game, the US vice president-elect drops a bombshell, ahh, as a humor though. But the excitement, love, and passion for the game aren’t a joke. The political mogul boosted Ryan Day’s confidence ahead of the massive shot of regaining his glory.
Vice President-elect JD Vance reaffirmed his old promise over social media after OSU wreaked havoc on the Texas Longhorns and paved their way through the final. They are locked for a high-stakes night on January 20th. On the other hand, Vance has cemented his commitment to inauguration day. On the same day of the College football final, Vance is supposed to be sworn in alongside President Donald Trump. However, Vance, being an Ohio State graduate of the 2009 batch, kept his enthusiasm for his alma mater’s historic title run over his political weightage. The Marine Corps veteran wrote over his X, ‘‘Hopefully, everyone is cool with me skipping the inauguration so I can go to the national title game.”

The joke triggered a variety of responses from the fans, with some of them being pissed off at his negligence toward the nation while others appreciated his raw passion for the sport. Well, the latest comment came off a backdrop of Vance winning a wager against Ted Cruz, the US senator from Texas. The Ohio-Texas matchup gave the duo a chance for the wager, and well, we already know who won! The soon-to-be VP did, and the Longhorns became the latest victim of the Ted Cruz curse.
Before this time, it wasn’t about Cruz betting on a game. Well, even worse, some might argue. Ted Cruz would show up to a game, and the Texas team would lose. It happened to Texas A&M when they placed Notre Dame and Texas Tech when received a loss against Virginia. Just go a few years back, and even Cruz’s presence at a basketball game didn’t go well for a lone star team as the Houston Rockets fell to the California-based Warriors.
Naturally, the Longhorns fans were nervous, and after seeing the result, can we really argue that they were wrong? Well, that’s a different ballgame to shed light on, but what did the cursed (for every Longhorns fan) wager stand for?

With a fiery semi-final looming large, Cruz extended another light wager to Vance on X. “Hey, @JDVance – care for a wager on the UT-Ohio State game? Loser brings beer & food from his home state & delivers it wearing the winning jersey?” Cruz posted with the hashtag ”#HookEm.”

Texas fans could still sustain their shot if Vance refused to accept this. But unfortunately, he did it for obvious reasons. Vance has that much confidence in his old school. Well, it’s not just a vocational token of praise. Vance has been an avid follower of his favorite CFB team. Before the season kicked off, Vance gave his vote of confidence to the Buckeyes, noting they are ‘maybe the best’ he has ever seen.
So, there is no mystery that the die-hard fan bet a dime without a second thought. “Alright, which Texas ice cream should I have Ted bring when the Buckeyes win?” Vance replied.
Ryan Day and Ohio State did justice to the faith and kept their championship hopes alive. But it was far from a walk in the park. They couldn’t just let go of the gut-wrenching memory of a 13-10 Michigan blow that put Day’s job and life at stake. After the fourth consecutive loss to the archrival, it turned literally a national title or bust situation for the veteran head coach.

Day, like a sheer professional, chose to take up the challenge and continued walking on the eggshell. One more to go, and if it’s a win-win again, he will be able to lift off the burden of guilt for good. But will it wash out the consequences of the would-be vice president’s heedless approach to the first step of his esteemed service? The questions demand a poll.
