Week 9 of college football unfolds! Who is taking the title home this season? While the football programs are preparing for their coming games, the recruitment landscape in college football is indeed evolving rapidly. Recently, the spotlight has been on Jared Curtis, a five-star quarterback from Nashville Christian School. Since he announced his de-commitment from Georgia, many programs have been fighting for him.
“My interest in Oregon is above the others right now,” Curtis told On3. Dan Lanning‘s Oregon Ducks are getting all the attention from the quarterback. Is Lanning looking for Dillon Gabriel’s replacement already? However, if he is trying to do so, things will not be easy. With Curtis now visiting various colleges and keeping his options open, the competition is fierce. Oregon, currently in a strong position to land him, faces significant threats from two college football powerhouses. If not Oregon, then who? Let’s find out.
On3 Recruits shared an interview with Chad Simmons, director of recruiting for On3, where he disclosed that Alabama and Auburn could threaten Lanning. “They love nothing more than to get him back in this class. He was actively recruiting guys to play with him at Georgia, uh, in this 2026 class just a month or two ago, so obviously, you know, I think for him he felt a little bit maybe guilty about you know being committed. Taking trips to USC, you know, South Carolina, talking to other coaches, lining up future trips, future visits to, you know, Alabama, Auburn, or other places, so I think he wanted to take a step back and just kind of reopen his recruitment.”

Simmons further underscores the appeal of SEC programs, although Curtis has expressed admiration for their coaching staff and the opportunities Ducks offer. His upcoming visits planned to Alabama and Auburn only intensify the competition. “Obviously Oregon kind of speaks for itself; he named them the leader, but there’s a lot of schools in the mix; you know, you said Georgia; they have not gone away; they’re definitely not out of the mix, but I think you know a strong, you know, SEC flavor you know with South Carolina.”
He added, “He loves that coaching staff. There’s an opportunity there. I mean, he’s going to Alabama, going to Auburn. Um, I think numerous schools will work hard in the coming months to get him on campus and become a factor, but I think Oregon, Georgia, and South Carolina are some schools to watch right now.”
