Should Arch Manning take over, or does Quinn Ewers deserve more time to prove himself?

At this point, just let Arch Manning take over. Quinn Ewers has been a mess. How do you go from averaging 70% completion to a low of 60%? Against the Razorbacks, Ewers was all over the place. While the guy did land 2 touchdowns along with 176 yards under his belt, the difference between this performance and the one he put up against the Gators is night and day. Quinn Ewers probably had the best 2024 season game against Florida with 5 touchdowns and 333 yards. However, you also have to take into consideration the fact that Longhorns were battling a crippled team from the swamp. The moment you place them against someone good, they barely cross the 20-point mark.

And that is exactly what happened against the Razorbacks. Texas only managed to collect a 20-10 win, and Arkansas’ defense had them in a chokehold. This coupled with Ewers’ lackluster performance, has landed the QB in hot waters. However, he still has support from his team. Back on X, Brian Davis shared what DB Jahdae Barron had to say about Quinn Ewers. “He has a lot of haters, he has a lot of love. But I love that dude all the way to the fullest. That’s a warrior move,” Barron had said after hugging the QB.

See, you might argue that despite what everyone is saying, Longhorns still won. However, the devil is in the details. If we look at the first half, Texas only managed to reach 10-0. The offense barely hit 39 yards in the 3rd quarter the Hogs were back on the board with a touchdown in by Ja’Quinden Jackson.

A win is a win, but this one was an ugly W. Ewers also took 2 sacks during the showdown and honestly, the real star of the show was the Texas defense. They easily managed to hold the Hogs back and curb the rush-and-pass game.

However, all of this points to another big issue that a lot of people have brought forward. See, Texas is yet to play ANYONE good. The only tough competition they have faced this season came from Georgia and they tanked during that showdown. So, why is this team still in the Top 3 spot in the CFP rankings?

Have an interesting take?

The committee loves the Longhorns

Fans calling you out on the internet is something but Nick Saban calling you out? Yeah, that is major. Back on College GameDay, Saban mentioned, “Texas, who seems on paper as one of the best teams, has only played 1 top team and got beat.” Texas should not be in the 3rd spot on the playoff rankings.

They have only faced off against lower-tier teams and if we are going as per strength of schedule, Steve Sarkisian and his team should be in the 8th or the 9th spot. “If Texas loses to Arkansas or Texas A&M at the end of the season, they have no big wins really, other than a big loss to Georgia,” Pat McAfee even called out the entire thing that is happening with the Longhorns.

See, they got the W against the Razorbacks which makes them a 9-win team. However, that loss to Georgia and that struggle win against Vandy should have some effect on the ranking. Let’s hope the committee figures something out.
