Can Cade Klubnik's magic lead Clemson to their first playoff since 2020, or is it a dream?

Clemson is seeking to rebound from their last ACC defeat against Louisville. They may be No. 23 in the AP Poll ranking right now but a win could propel their playoff chances, given that the undefeated ACC leader Miami Hurricanes just faced an upset 28-23 loss in the hands of Georgia Tech. Their ongoing clash with Virginia Tech didn’t see many game changers through the first two quarters, posing a grim outlook for the Tigers. But it’s the third quarter where Clemson’s star signal caller stole the spotlight.

Clemson QB Cade Klubnik just made an outstanding play in their game against Virginia Tech. As posted by cbssportscfb on Instagram on November 10, the 21-year-old delivered some “MAGIC” on the field late in the third quarter when the teams were tied 7-7. Klubnik managed to escape a Hokies defender and found his footing after a brief stumble while holding the football. Then he heaved a wild 41-yard pass to T.J. Moore who ran to the endzone for a touchdown.

With that spectacular play, Cade Klubnik has completed 11 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. A win is already looking likely as the Tigers take the necessary lead to pursue their playoff chances. As of now, he leads Clemson with 2,064 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Clemson has been enjoying a fruitful season this year with six consecutive winning streaks after their season opener loss to Georgia. But they suffered their only conference defeat in the hands of Louisville in their last game when they fell 33-21 to the Cardinals. While they now stand with two losses to six wins, they still have a good chance to make it to the playoffs if they win this game against Virginia Tech who are currently 5-4. While the whole game is filled with intensity, Klubnik also made another play that put a smile even on HC Dabo Swinney’s face.

Cade Klubnik misses a sneak punt

We saw a little bit of desperation in Clemson when they failed to make things move in the first half in Blacksburg. Dabo Swinney even went to the extent of trusting Cade Klubnik too much to the point that he gave him a sneak punt command which the Tigers signal caller hilariously messed up. In the second quarter, Klubnik began the play by running with the football and then while nobody was expecting it, he punted but shanked it. It not only made Swinney smile at his far-fetched shot but also drew hearty laughter from the ESPN hosts Mark Jones and Roddy Jones.

But all’s well that ends well. In what was an exhilarating game, Clemson finally sealed the scoreboard at 24-14, winning the love and appreciation from Klubnik’s girlfriend Macey Matthews who posted the final score on her Instagram story with the caption “go tigers!!! 🧡🧡🧡” Now, they only three more regular games in their schedule including one ranked game against Pittsburgh. Can they keep up the momentum and win their first playoff appearance since 2020?
