Is Carson Beck Kirby Smart’s asset? Lately, his performance has raised significant concerns, and he is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Since the Georgia Bulldogs lost to Alabama, he has been under the radar. Currently, they are standing at 7-1. Will they qualify for the playoffs with this record? This week, the Bulldogs will play against Ole Miss, who are standing at 7-2. While Smart’s quarterback is putting him in danger, Lane Kiffin’s quarterback is making him proud with his impressive performances. A few hours ago, analysts Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram II and Rob Stone discussed Beck’s struggles and raised eyebrows.
In the latest episode of The Triple Show, Rob Stone criticizes Beck’s performance and compares him to Jackson Dart: “He leads the SEC with 11 interceptions. Carson Beck, 11 picks thrown. He leads FBS over the last four weeks with eight interceptions thrown.” On November 2, the Bulldogs defeated Florida 34-20. Beck completed 25 out of 40 passes and scored two touchdowns. His interception story repeated again this Saturday; he ended up with 3 interceptions this time.
Rob further went on appreciating Dart and mentioned, “And then a totally different story for Ole Miss and their quarterback, Jackson Dart. He’s got the number one passing offense in FBS this season, 377 yards a game. Dart completes almost 72% of his passes, 24 total touchdowns, just three interceptions.” Last week, Dart helped Ole Miss secure a victory against Arkanasa by throwing for 515 yards and scoring six touchdowns. Kindly note that there were no interceptions.

The analysts did not appreciate Dart alone but the Ole Miss defense and mentioned, “The rush defense is number two in FBS, allowing under 85 a game. Most sacks in FBS, with 41, including 18 sacks in the last two games.”
Moving forward, the season is heating up, and Beck cannot keep disappointing his fans. If we look at the initial games of Ole Miss, they dominated their opponents on both sides; therefore, keeping that in mind, the Bulldogs need to put forward their A game.

Kirby Smart defends Carson Beck after 3 interceptions against Florida
This is not the first time media outlets, experts, and analysts have raised questions about Beck. But this is also not the first time we will see Kirby Smart defending his quarterback. After the game, head coach Kirby Smart said, “Just decision-making, I think that’s the bottom line,” Smart added. “I think I was more pleased after watching the tape than anything, because he got 73 snaps. He had 68 winning decisions. Really good decisions.”
Smart did not stop defending Beck and mentioned, “I mean, 68 of 73 is pretty good in any sport I’m in. I think the concern is the mistakes can’t be catastrophic,” Smart added. “You got to make good decisions and the two plays he ends up turning the b-ll over on, they weren’t great looks defensively against that call. Like, we were expecting something else. So, when that happens, you got to play for the next down.”

Come on! Smart’s reasoning can be applied to defend any play or player. You had a bad week? Oh, it’s alright! You just made three bad decisions. Smart can come out and say this because the Bulldogs didn’t lose the game. Had the Gators upset the Bulldogs, we may have seen a different Smart in the media. But that doesn’t mean that Beck hasn’t cost the team a game yet. Remember Alabama game where Beck played like an amateur QB in the first half? Well, that didn’t help the Bulldogs. Let’s hope the story doesn’t continue against the Rebels.
