Is the media pressure on Ryan Williams fair, or are we expecting too much from a 17-year-old?

With a 3-0 record, the Alabama Crimson Tide is moving towards their bye week undefeated with the contributions of their star wide receiver Ryan Williams making the waves. After having a bombarding start against Western Kentucky, they suffocated till the third quarter in the game against South Florida and eventually won the game coming to the fourth quarter. And if we talk about last week’s game with the Wisconsin Badgers, Alabama shined to its truest glory. Amidst all that, a question arises: who are the pillars that built this program and make them say, “Roll tide“? Although it’s quite subjective, in a recent appearance, Ryan Williams talked about who, according to him, are the top players that Alabama has seen.

Ryan Williams revealed who are his top five players from Crimson Tide during a podcast, and his first choice is Bama’s star wide receiver, DeVonta Smith. “I’m receiver-biased; watching Smitty is my number one. My Dog won the Heisman.” Williams is 100 percent true because Smith is indeed an elite player in the era of modern-day college football.

Besides that, Ryan mentioned other wide receivers; as he already clarified, he is receiver-biased. He named James Williams, one of his favorite players and a wide receiver. According to Ryan Williams, Julio Jones is also one of the greatest players Alabama has seen. “He is an animal, a dog,” Ryan Williams said while praising Jones.

Moving ahead, he describes that Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jourdy, and Jaylen Waddle, who are playing in the NFL, are also his favorites. Williams said what he had to say, but do you know how the internet reacted to it?

Instagram reacts to Ryan Williams’ top five players list

Although it’s a subjective choice to set your favorites, when Williams talked about it, he got targeted by Instagram users who trolled him for not considering other college football legends who played for Alabama back in their day. One user raised a logical concern, writing, “The crazy thing is there are so many superb Bama players that no matter what 5 you name, you are leaving off over 20 dudes that could legit be argued to be in that top 5 list.” That makes sense because there’s no way it’s possible to name only the five best players when there are a lot of players who were popular in their time.

Is the media pressure on Ryan Williams fair, or are we expecting too much from a 17-year-old?

Have an interesting take?

A few people wrote about players who were way more famous than the players Williams mentioned, and to answer, a user came to support Williams, saying, “God damn people, y’all want him to name dudes that played when he wasn’t even born.” That’s quite correct. Even if Williams knew them by their names, he wouldn’t be so impacted by them because he didn’t grow up watching them. Another Instagram user wrote, “All WRs? lol, no Minkas? No will? There he pointed out that Minkah Annane Fitzpatrick and another player were legendary players, and Williams should have taken his name.

After which, a few more users suggested that, since he is a wide receiver, he named wide receivers, and that’s what he clarified at the beginning—that he is WR biased, so why make a buzz about it? If few trolled Williams for his choices, some people supported him for it, so it’s a blessing in disguise for Ryan Williams.
