Travis Hunter has never been out of discussion ever since he rose to the eminence of the Colorado football under the prudent guidance of Coach Prime. The epic two-way talent didn’t take much time to capture the undivided attention of the college football world, mounting a breakout 9-4 campaign last season. On offense, he tallied 1258 yards and 15 touchdowns, while on defense, he racked up 36 total tackles and four interceptions. The icing on the cake is his glorious Heisman trophy through a close dogfight over Ashton Jeanty. As the Colorado prodigy is now waiting for his NFL stint to start off, the result of his collegiate excellence continues to bear more awards.

Travis Hunter will surely be picked early in the 2025 NFL Draft, considering the big hype and bigger number on his resume. Although he might not be the first overall pick, he’s a widely projected candidate for Cleveland at No. 2 overall, New Orleans at No. 9 overall, or somewhere in between. His dual-threat talent has been the most captivating part of his stock yet the most debatable part of his NFL discussions.

The 22-year-old has been adamant in his claim to play both sides of the ball in the pros, which is a far-fetched idea in the NFL as per the veterans. College football works much differently than the NFL, and it’s comparatively easier to excel at both positions (as cornerback and wide receiver). However, in the NFL, it includes potential hazards to health, and hence, coaches don’t take the risk of making the players do this stunt. But Hunter is the last one to be pigeonholed. He revealed his intention to break the stigma and continues to shine as the two-way star. It’s still a mystery whether or not Hunter gets his grant approved, but for now, he has another reward to calm the brain with.

Can Travis Hunter redefine NFL norms by excelling as a two-way player, or is it too risky?

Have an interesting take?

Travis winning an award is not surprising. He is meant to bag that. He is here to win, not to fall victim to some nonsense controversy rants. But the award came off at a perfect time when it could be able to cool off the heat a bit, reminding the fans he is still great. Addressing that timeless class, another one wrote, ‘‘U deserved it bro u earned it 💪🏾🙏🏾” Another fan continued to echo the same sentiment, saying: ”My Guy!💪🏾Congrats!!🎊”

Some fans even expressed frustration over Travis not winning the 2024 Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, reserved for the top defensive back in college football. Jahdae Barron from Texas grabbed the honor for the past year, but fans aren’t convinced. ”Another award for Travis, and yet the committee for the Jim Thorpe award didn’t award him the Jim Thorpe award. Hardly anyone even knows the guy who did win the Jim Thorpe award.”
