Travis Hunter’s Mother Turns Teary Eyed as He Dons Gold to Occupy Spot in College Football Legacy

Not all endings have to be bitter. And the Colorado Buffaloes’ two-way star Travis Hunter just got a good taste of that! The dual-threat has already given his program everything, including bringing home a Heisman Trophy. But, seemingly, there’s more to that story, even prompting his mother to get emotional…

Well, the Heisman trophy is already too alluring. The bronze figurine depicts a muscular football player carrying a ball in his left hand while extending his right arm in a stiff-arm motion. Too irresistible, isn’t it? By now, college football fans might have got Hunter’s look from the Heisman finale etched in their memories. The Buffs dual-threat with his ever-charming ear-to-ear grin, donning the blue suit and holding the bronze trophy. However, as found on his vlog, on Day 3 of the Heisman, Hunter had to follow the tradition.

He got his tailored official suit, a gold blazer with a prominent Heisman Trophy logo patch on the left chest pocket. The sight of Hunter in the color of gold has been a visual delight for his mother, Ferrante Edmonds.

On February 6, she posted a clip that she had captured from the audience as Hunter took to the stage with other Heisman legends back in December last year. Captioned, “This is what history in the making looks like! I’m a proud mother. I love you @travishuntershow you did your thing,” the video showed hunter ascending to the stage and making his place among other elite veterans. And how could she forget to mention Hunter’s brand-new ensemble? Edmonds further wrote in the caption, “You look good in that Gold jacket.” She must be the proudest mom right now. 

Notably, her Instagram is a digital diary capturing every special moment in her son’s life. In fact, pinned to her official Instagram account is a video where a journalist had asked her, “Travis’ mom…As you hear his name called [for the Heisman Trophy], the tears start to fall. What did you think when they called his name?” To this, Ferrante responded proudly, “They finally realized what I already knew,” prompting the interviewer to ask, “What is that?”

Ferrante: “That he’s him. He’s always been him, without or without a trophy. Still Heisman. He’s more than…he just brought the value that people needed to see [in] him as a person. Never give up [on] your dreams regardless of how far you feel like you’re not there yet. There’s always a way out as long as you continue to push and press. And the rest is history…,” a part of her heart touching monologue said.

After all, her son led an underdog program to almost a foot inside the 12-team college football player. Do you know the Buffs’ dual-threat team became the first one to hold the honor from Boulder since Rashaan Salaam in 1994? So, of course, the only emotional running amok was pride…

However, winning the highest CFB accolade is not the end all for Hunter. He still has his eyes on another prize. “I want to be No. 1. That’s the first thing I dreamed of. I ain’t dream of winning the Heisman. I dreamed of being No. 1. Getting to that point, [if] I was able to be the No. 1 pick off the board, that’s what I want to be,” he said.

Having said that, as Hunter now becomes the proud owner of the blazer getting inducted into a “brotherhood” of past winners, looks like Edmonds’ prayers got responded in big ways.

Not many know that just like Hunter is excelling in the athletic field, her mother too got some big recognition. Edmonds uses her words to keep society moving towards something positive. She appeared on the Can We Talk Sports show’s Sports Mom Conference 2025 and went viral for her speech. “It’s never too late for you to write your story. So write your story. Don’t let other people to take the pen and write it for you. Use your words. Your words have power,” advised Hunter’s mother. With this, she was honored with the “Woman of God” tag by one of the attendees. 

She has always been that guiding light for the Buffs two-way star. After all, Hunter had recently faced a lot of challenges when it came to social media bashing. The haters had an issue with his fiancée, Leanna Lenee, for which they dragged the dual-threat through the mud. That’s when Edmonds broke her silence on how she was keeping her son in prayers to overcome the haters’ rage. 

She went for an interview with BiggDogg Chico and Uncle Neely where the proud mother confirmed how she was not going to take the ugly way of teaching the trolls a lesson. Rather, she would leave everything in the Almighty’s hands. “Cause I’m not going to take it to the streets. I’mma take it to my knees and I’mma pray about it cause he said touch not my anointed ones, do my prophet no harm…. So baby, if I’m with Jesus and Jesus on my side, I’m on the winning team. You better get like me,” Ferrante Edmonds raised a warning. Signs are everywhere—Travis Hunter is covered by a higher power.
