Is Travis Hunter the next Deion Sanders? His mom sure thinks so after that UCF victory!

The Colorado Buffs dual-threat player, Travis Hunter, is making waves in the football world with his show-stealing interception during their faceoff against the UCF Knights. His performance not only increased his Heisman Trophy odds, but he is also leading the rankings against all odds. Travis Hunter’s exceptional performance on 28th September turned criticism into praise.

Even former 49ers star cornerback Richard Sherman, who questioned his dual game skills, had a change of opinion as he praised his gameplay, saying, “If the Heisman is going to the best player in college football, they are going to have a tough time not giving it to @TravisHunterJr.” Coach Prime also patted him on the back by complimenting his game abilities. Now, Travis’s mom channels the same emotion Deion Sanders expressed towards him.

After the game, Travis Hunter took to his official Instagram handle @db3_tip to share a carousel of his iconic Heisman Pose moment with his IG family. In the first slide, he shared a video where he ran towards the end zone to make the pose, followed by a photo on the next slide. In the comment section, his mom, Ferrante Harris, couldn’t stop but hype his son, saying, “Great job, son!” Yep, He is Him! Heisman Him Now!” Which was the exact depiction of Deion Sanders’ words about Travis’ performance?

During the post-win conference, DNVR Sports Coach Prime admired Hunter’s interception, hitting the Heisman pose, saying, “This is who he is, man. The guy works his b–t off at practice. That’s why nobody trips when he gets Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday off. Nobody says anything because if they did, I’d say, ‘Do what he does, and you’ll get those days off too.’ It’s just that simple. He plays 100-some snaps in a game, and he never tires.”

However, after showcasing such remarkable gameplay throughout the season, there are still some doubts about his versatility.

Doubts rising over Travis Hunter’s two-way game ability

Have an interesting take?

Travis Hunter’s outstanding interception against the Knights QB KJ Jefferson gave Colorado a huge edge over them. Even after such high-end performance questioning, his skills can be delusional. On the 28th September episode of the ‘Nightcap’ show, Shannon Sharpe and Ocho reacted to Colorado vs. Knights. While talking about Hunter’s gameplay, former Denver Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe said, “I don’t believe anybody thinks he’s going to play every snap on offense, every snap on defense. Nobody believes that. Do we believe that he can be a defensive back and have a package of plays on offense? Yes, because we’ve seen it before. We’ve seen Prime do it; Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, and JJ Watt had a couple of packages as defensive linemen but to play every snap? Don’t think so.” This pretty much reflects that NFL stars do not have faith in Travis Hunter’s two-way skill set.

Even former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson also had similar thoughts towards Hunter’s comprehensive gameplay, saying, “When I think about Travis Hunter and how special he is even at the receiver’s position, I understand what Sherman’s talking about in a sense, but I’m also understanding how much work and how much time he has to work on this craft from a receiver standpoint. He’s so athletically gifted; once they sharpen up all the tools, man, it’s a wrap.” However, they even appreciated his achievement but had a critical approach towards his future as a two-way player.

Well, Travis Hunter has a bright future ahead of him with all milestones he is accomplishing. Let’s see if he could change everyone’s concern over his two-way ability as a player this season.
